Today Furnitureland Rotary held its annual Heroes Day, which recognizes a member nominated by the chiefs from both the police and fire departments.

High Point Police Chief Curtis Cheeks recognized Detective Dan Sellers, who dug into some cold cases and recently solved the 2002 murder of Betty Moore.

High Point Fire Chief Bryan Evans recognized firefighter Palmer Record, who was off duty when a call came in to deploy rescue equipment to free an accident victim in a traffic wreck. With all on-duty firefighters off fighting fires, Palmer drove the equipment in his own vehicle to extract the victim, who turned out to be a retired firefighter.

Congratulations to our two heroes and thanks to the police and firefighters for the protection and help they provide to our city every day.
