Today marked our new officer team’s first day on the job!

Members from more than twenty local unions joined in great conversations in Missoula and Helena. Local 4700 leaders led a tour of the Montana State Prison where members shared the challenges and importance of fully staffed & funded public safety.

Melissa, Lance, Michelle, and Eric know every MFPE member shares ownership of our union. Montana's public services, public schools, and public safety depend on the work we all do.

Relationships are at the center of work. It’s up to all of us to show up, organize, and use our voices!

314 delegates. Dozens of local unions. Two days celebrating wins & planning for more.

New Business Items. Constitutional Amendments. A new Hall of Famer. Thoughtful candidates and spirited elections for MFPE offices.

The 9th MFPE Annual Conference showed the very best of our union—strong, organized, and ready for the fights ahead.

Congratulations to MFPE President-elect Melissa Romano, 1st Vice President-elect Lance Edward, 2nd VP Michelle Wheat, and Treasurer-elect Eric Matthews. Cheers to our newly elected board members—from Alicia Truax (Glendive, Motor Carrier Services) to Courtney Kircos (Missoula, Merged Missoula Classified Employees Org.) and beyond!

And an enormous thank you to MFPE President Amanda Curtis and all outgoing leaders for the talent, dedication, and partnership you’ve given MFPE members over the years.

MFPE members fought the good fight all year long. Enjoy the holidays, rest up, & let’s come back swinging in 2026!

In 2025, MFPE members continued the fight for fair wages, benefits, and working conditions. We stood together at the legislature to beat back union-busting, defeat vouchers, protect pensions, and pass critical funding packages.

At the bargaining table, we worked to implement the STARS Act in K-12 locals with a focus on fairness. We secured Pay Plan raises across state and higher education locals. We rallied around law enforcement and corrections officers by advancing solutions on housing, facilities, and contract defense — including forcing accountability when the DOJ illegally fired a union president, winning justice for Alicia and later a 10% pay raise for MHP troopers.

Along the way, we celebrated each other and the outstanding contributions we make to students, families, and our communities.

Congratulations to the Billings Police Department local union on their newest member (President Chartier will accept nothing less than full membership, no exceptions). Thank you to the detective Jones for capturing the moment!

We've wrapped up another MFPE Educator Conference, the largest educator-led professional development event in the Northwest! For over 30 years, MFPE members have kept ourselves licensed, endorsed, and prepared to give students our best.

These two days are powered by MFPE union members' dues and advocacy. We know that when Montana educators come together, we raise the bar for our profession and for every public school student.
