Nearly 1,000 Montana educators attended this year's MFPE Educator Conference in Great Falls!

This conference has been an annual fixture of professional development for educators, by educators over the past 35+ years. It's where educators lead & learn from one another. Where award winning teachers and staff are celebrated. Where aspiring educators find mentors. Where innovation and excellence continue to be fostered. And it's done as a service for students, parents, and families.

The first bill request of the 2027 Legislature seeks to end this conference and others like it.

At a time when Montanans are facing skyrocketing health care costs, housing shortages, and property tax challenges, we believe legislators should be focused on addressing those issues.

Even if some legislators won't provide real leadership, MFPE members will continue leading in ways big and small. Because public service is a public good.

Over two dozen MFPE members are running for the legislature this year! 12 of them, from both parties, are in races that could be decided by a handful of votes.

Last night in Whitefish, we had some fun getting out the vote for Debo Powers & Paula Koch. Debo's a retired teacher and Paula is still getting after it at Columbia Falls High School. Both will be outstanding representatives in Helena this coming session!

What a week in Washington, D.C.!

Melissa wrapped up her first NEA Superweek as MFPE President, and she left feeling inspired, energized, and grateful for the opportunity to represent Montana's public employees and educators! From Melissa:

"I spent the first three days learning alongside six other new state presidents. The rest of the week was FULL with meetings, and connecting with colleagues from across the country. There is so much to learn in this new role, and I'm grateful for the relationships and support along the way.

And, of course, I couldn't leave D.C. without a walk around the National Mall. A little fresh air, good conversation, and sightseeing were the perfect way to wrap up the week.

I'm coming home with new ideas, new friendships, and an even stronger commitment to the work ahead.

It's an honor to represent MFPE's members, and I'm excited about what we can accomplish together!"

Today, we remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and honor the courage of the first responders, public servants, workers, and everyday people who stepped forward in the face of unimaginable tragedy.

We also remember the families and communities whose lives were forever changed that day.

Twenty-five years later, we continue to honor their memory through service, solidarity, and care for one another.

MFPE joins people across Montana and the nation in remembering September 11 and all those whose lives were touched by it.

Happy Labor Day from MFPE! ❤️💪

Today is a day to celebrate working people and to remember what is possible when we stand together.

So many of the things we count on today like weekends, safer workplaces, better pay, benefits, pensions, and a voice on the job, didn’t just happen. Workers organized, spoke up, and fought for them.

That same work continues today!

MFPE members across Montana show up every day for students, families, coworkers, communities, and one another.

Whether you work in a school, a state agency, a university, a county office, or somewhere else in public service, we know our work matters and our voices matter!

Happy Labor Day, Montana! ✊❤️

This past week, MFPE union members and union members from across the country gathered in Denver for the NEA Representative Assembly.

Whether we work in classrooms, on campuses, in state agencies, in public safety, in health care, or in the many other jobs that keep our communities running, public employees show up every day for the people we serve.

When we stand together, we are powerful.

Today marked our new officer team’s first day on the job!

Members from more than twenty local unions joined in great conversations in Missoula and Helena. Local 4700 leaders led a tour of the Montana State Prison where members shared the challenges and importance of fully staffed & funded public safety.

Melissa, Lance, Michelle, and Eric know every MFPE member shares ownership of our union. Montana's public services, public schools, and public safety depend on the work we all do.

Relationships are at the center of work. It’s up to all of us to show up, organize, and use our voices!
