We were proud to honor Lieutenant JD Murphy as our 2026 Firefighter of the Year! 👏

It was a meaningful ceremony celebrating JD’s dedication, service, and the important work our local firefighters do every day to keep our community safe.

Thank you to JD and all the firefighters who make sacrifices, face challenges, and show up for our community day after day. We’re honored to recognize those who serve, and grateful for the opportunity to celebrate JD and his accomplishments!

Every year, the Helena Exchange Club honors a local firefighter who makes significant contributions to the community's safety and well-being.

It’s about more than coats and boots.

Behind every coat and pair of boots we provide through Coats for Kids, there’s a child, a family, and a story.

Over the years, we’ve heard stories that remind us exactly why this program matters.

❄️ After a major snowstorm, a school contacted us about a family whose children had come to school wearing flip-flops. We gathered the needed items and got them to the family right away.

🥾 One teacher shared how proud a student was of their “new box” of boots. The student kept the box in their cubby because it made them happy. They had never had nice, new winter gear of their own before.

🌎 We’ve helped foreign exchange students who arrived in Montana excited for a new experience, only to discover they weren’t prepared for a Montana winter.

❤️ And we’ve helped families facing incredibly difficult circumstances, including a mom raising five children without the income or support to purchase the winter items her young kids needed.

These are just a few reminders that something as simple as a warm coat or a good pair of boots can mean so much more than staying warm. It can bring comfort, confidence, happiness, and the feeling that someone cares.

This is why the Helena Exchange Club continues to run the Coats for Kids program — and why our community’s support means so much.

Every ticket, sponsor, auction item, and volunteer helps us reach more local children.

✨ The Exchange Club of Helena is awarding Cohesion Dance Project a grant to help bring a special dance experience to local students!

On November 30, Helena fourth and fifth graders, along with middle and high school students in Special Education and Functional Living Skills classrooms, will enjoy a FREE performance of Cohesion’s Shira Greenberg’s Nutcracker on the Rocks at the Helena Civic Center, just for them!

💃 And the fun starts before the show! Cohesion artists and dancers of all abilities will visit participating classrooms to introduce the story, answer questions and lead movement activities inspired by the production. Students even get to try some dance moves themselves before seeing it all come to life on stage!

At Cohesion, dance is for everyone! 💛 We love supporting organizations that make the arts accessible and create meaningful opportunities for local youth.

Our Student of the Month program for October recognized nine outstanding high school students, and we were excited to welcome three of them to our weekly lunch meeting! Brett, Nate, and Levi (all from Capital High School) were joined by their families as they shared their accomplishments in high school, their extracurriculars, and their plans for the future.

We love having the opportunity to celebrate these incredible young people and hear firsthand about the great things they’re doing and where they hope to go next.

Congratulations to all of our October recipients! We’re proud to support the next generation of leaders in our community. 💙
