We're SO EXCITED for this program. Direct support + targeted learning is practically our love language.

Most nonprofits don't start because someone really wants to ask people for money. The mission comes first. Fundraising happens through sheer grit and determination -- often stretched across staff with other responsibilities (and passions).

As your organization grows, so does your fundraising need. But it can be hard to find the capacity to bridge the gap from a scrappy start-up to a mature organization with full-time development staff and an organized, established donor stewardship plan.

That's why MNA is excited to launch our first-ever Fundraising Cohort Program.

This is a hands-on, collaborative experience designed to help Montana nonprofits strengthen their fundraising capacity, grow individual donor support, and build sustainable fundraising practices for the future.

We've designed the program to be a sort of launch pad for midsize organizations, with peer learning and direct fundraising support from MNA Fundraising Program Director Anna Smoot.

Does your nonprofit organization support employees when they're navigating new family members or sickness in the family?

Due to member requests, we were excited to collect data on family and medical leave in our latest Nonprofit Compensation & Benefits Report.

70% of responding organizations in Montana reported that they offer some form of paid or unpaid family & medical leave. We think that's a pretty good start, and we're already looking forward to seeing how these numbers change over the years.

Tell us in the comments: Does your organization have a leave policy? Do you feel supported by that policy, or do you wish it was better?

Check out our 2026 Compensation & Benefits report for more data on nonprofit salaries and benefits in a 7-state region.

Meet our two newest team members! 🎉

Anna Smoot joins MNA as our new Fundraising Program Director, leading the Fundraising Hub — a pilot program designed to build fundraising capacity for small nonprofits across Montana. Anna brings two decades of experience advancing causes in disability services, healthcare, education, workforce development, mental health, and substance abuse prevention. She's based in Bozeman with her family, and we couldn't be more glad she's here.

Barbara Krizek steps into the role of Accounting & Grants Manager, keeping our financials sharp and our grants on track. A former Air Force Intelligence Officer and current recreational pilot, Barbara brings thirteen years of nonprofit accounting experience serving organizations focused on animal welfare, wildlife conservation, and supporting survivors of domestic and sexual violence. She calls Red Lodge home.

Welcome, Anna and Barbara — we're so excited to have you on the team! 💙

Is your nonprofit ready to make its voice heard? 📣 Whether you're a staff member just getting started with advocacy or a board member looking to deepen your organization's impact, MNA has a training for you this spring.

Nonprofit Policy & Advocacy 101 starts March 25 — a three-part series to build your skills and confidence. And if you want to get your board on board (😄), Board's Guide to Advocacy kicks off April 28 in just two one-hour sessions.

Both courses are led by MNA Policy Director Lorianne Burhop. Tag a colleague who should join you!
