Yikes hopefully murder hornets don’t make their way to Montana. If you see one reach out to your county extension office for advice. They are quite vicious. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/05/02/us/asian-giant-hornet-washington.html

Sightings of the Asian giant hornet have prompted fears that the vicious insect could establish itself in the United States and devastate bee populations.

We would like to thank all our members throughout the years as well as all our sponsors and supporters of our various community project. It has been an amazing journey and we have learn so much along the way.

The Helena Club has shut down. However for those that enjoyed the posts you can like the the Montana Federation of Garden Clubs at https://m.facebook.com/MontanaGardens. You can also find a list of clubs throughout Montana on their web site https://www.mtfgc.org. If any one is interested in starting a new local non-profit club just reach out to the Montana Federation. You will need a President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer to get started. Best wishes for a great gardening season.

We will leave this Facebook site active for a month to allow everyone to download photos or items of interest before we delete the page.

We are a volunteer gardening group dedicated to educating our members and youth about horticulture, and supporting conservation and environmental efforts of Montana members through gardening, floral designs, landscaping and community improvement.

Happy Arbor Day. Check out some ideas for how to celebrate while maintaining social distancing.

Thank you for your interest in celebrating Arbor Day! While in years past this was a time for volunteer opportunities and community events for all ages, current CDC recommendations for COVID-19 make this year very different.

Spring has sprung and the snow is returning. Hopefully we don't get as much snow as last month. We have rescheduled our program and will be proceeding with the plan.

This Thursday, March 28th at 6 pm we will hold our meeting at Montana Wild, 2668 Broadwater Avenue, followed by this month’s program at 6:30. Belva from Tizer Botanic Gardens & Arboretum will share photos of Plant Select plants that do extremely well in a Montana rock garden. Plant Select is a collaboration between the Denver Botanic Gardens and Colorado State University. Colorado looks for plants that do not require supplemental water. They send teams around the world to find plants that are cold hardy, drought tolerant and do well in high altitudes. These plants are propagated and tested in Colorado and then sent to other high altitude climates for testing. Tizer Botanic Gardens & Arboretum has been a demonstration garden for Plant Select since 2005. Richard and Belva have discovered that many of these plants do very well here. She will share her experiences with us. The public is welcome to join us.

Join us on Flag Day, June 14th at 7 pm.

You are cordially invited to the Helena Garden Club Blue Star Memorial Dedication

Flag Day, Thursday, June 14, 2018 at 7:00 pm Montana State Veterans Cemetery 3550 Heroes Road, Fort Harrison, MT
There will be a short dedication program followed by light refreshments
In cooperation with Montana POW/MIA Awareness Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary #1116, and CTA Inc.

The Blue Star Memorial Program from National Garden Clubs honors all men and women that serve in the United States Armed Services. The Blue Star became an icon in World War II and was seen on flags and banners in homes for sons and daughters away at war, and in churches and businesses.

This program has been active all through the years to the present, a fitting tribute to our Armed Forces and especially now.
An RSVP to Helena Garden Club Blue Star Memorial Event is appreciated.

The milkweed arrived and the pollinator pathway was planted today. Thanks everyone for seeing this project through in the rain. It now has everything needed for ideal butterfly habitat, mud puddles, animal dung, sand, salt, milkweed, nectar plants, rocks, hideaway holes, grass and leaves. Let’s see who moves in. It will take a year for the milkweed to get large enough to sustain a Monarch population.
