We are !

Wild Montana Action Fund is seeking canvassers (a canvass lead and multiple canvassers) in Missoula to educate voters about issues that impact public land conservation and candidates that will champion Montana's public lands.

Most of the canvassing work will be door-to-door, with additional phone canvassing to support our get out the vote work.

The government shutdown hurts Montana families, threatens clean air and water, and jeopardizes public access. Our elected officials have to stand up against this threat.

For nearly a century, the Montana Supreme Court has been the backstop protecting our way of life: defending our access to float and fish on our rivers and safeguarding our right to clean water, clean air, and healthy public lands.

But here’s the thing: these rights only stand if our courts remain free from partisan politics. Judges should be accountable to the citizens of Montana and the Constitution, not politicians, party bosses, or donors.

If politicians succeed in making our judicial elections partisan, Montana’s proud tradition of protecting public lands and waters could be undone.

That’s why Wild Montana Action Fund has endorsed Montanans for Nonpartisan Courts, the bipartisan coalition fighting to keep judges accountable to the Constitution and the people, not to political parties or donors.

You can help by adding your name to the endorsement below.

The Trump administration isn’t shy about its desire to dismantle our public lands and hand them over to corporations. Even so, it’s alarming that it appointed Karen Budd-Falen as associate deputy secretary at the Department of the Interior – the #3 position in the whole department.

Budd-Falen is a long-time supporter of land transfer. She’s an opponent of public lands generally, and especially the agencies that manage them – including the one she’s now working for.

Longtime transfer advocate Karen Budd-Falen is the #3 at the Department of the Interior. What could that mean for Montana’s public lands?

Public lands don’t just inspire us - they sustain us.

This year, Montana’s national public lands are netting Montana counties a record $46.5 million through Payment in Lieu of Taxes (PILT) funding. That money goes straight back into schools, roads, emergency services, and essential programs that keep our communities thriving.

The numbers are clear: public lands are a valuable asset that drives economic growth and supports our Montana communities.

Learn more about PILT funding and the benefits of our public lands below.

Montana counties will receive $46.5 million this year to cover a lack of property tax revenue from national public lands. It’s the largest payment in the PILT program’s history.

Here we go.

The closures are part of a broader reorganization effort at the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which houses the U.S. Forest Service, announced by Secretary Sonny Rollins last week.
