A single encounter at Kroger changed everything. Meet our incredible partner, The Highly Favored Foundation! Highly Favored Foundation new page 🛒💙👶

When Alberta moved from Ghana, West Africa, to the United States, she believed America was a land of boundless opportunity. But an ordinary trip to Kroger stopped her in her tracks: a young girl asked for a quarter because her family was living out of their car and starving.

Alberta only had about $40 in her pocket. She couldn't end homelessness overnight, but she knew she could do something so she walked across the street and bought that family a hot meal.

That single, unforgettable moment birthed The Highly Favored Foundation.

Today, Alberta and her team are an invaluable asset to Serve City. Every Tuesday at our Food Pantry, they step into the gap to provide essential personal hygiene products and baby necessities (diapers, wipes, and basic care items) to local families in need.

Meaningful change doesn’t require us to fix everything at once; it just asks us to do what we can with what we have.

Is your business, church, or civic organization ready to step into the gaps with us to love our neighbors?

He had spent years battling homelessness. But the dream of meeting his 4-year-old daughter changed everything. 👧💖🔑

For someone in their early 40s with a long, exhausting history of homelessness, finding a way out can feel almost impossible.

When "Steve" walked into our emergency shelter a year ago, he carried the weight of that cycle. But this time, he had a powerful motivation driving every step: he had a four-year-old daughter he had never met, and he was determined to become the father she deserved.

Rebuilding his life meant facing a mountain of challenges and strict requirements:

📋 Parenting Classes & Therapy: Tackling every single requirement from Children Services head-on.

🏢 Coaching: Working through early roommate conflicts and mastering life skills.

💼 Supportive Employment: Securing a job and building consistent, honest income.

🔑 Total Self-Sufficiency: Signing his own lease and paying his deposit and rent completely on his own without subsidies!

Today, Steve enjoys regular, joyful visits at the park with his daughter, with the goal of full custody as he continues building their future together.

Steve's journey proves that it is never too late to rewrite your story when hope meets the right support system.

"You gave me chance after chance... all of my life You've been right here by my side. God, I'm just grateful for You." 🎶

If you've spent any time around Serve City or in our worship gatherings, you’ve likely felt the heart, faith, and humility behind Dustin Bowman’s voice. Today, we are overjoyed to officially announce that Dustin has been named Executive Director of Serve City! 🎉💙

Dustin’s path to leadership is a living testimony to the power of hope and second chances:

🛏️ From Crisis to Community: Years ago, Dustin came through Serve City’s shelter doors battling addiction and homelessness.
🛠️ Frontline Dedication: He joined our staff on the rawest frontline—third-shift shelter operations—and faithfully served for 6 years across multiple operational roles.
🤝 Proven Leadership: Over the last six months as Interim Executive Director, Dustin has deepened partnerships, rallied our team, and expanded community support across Butler County.

"Serve City was a safe space that caught me when I had nowhere else to turn and provided me with a spark of hope that changed the trajectory of my life," says Dustin. "Having walked in the shoes of the neighbors we serve, I know firsthand the power of being met with love, grace, and real community."

Dustin leads with a servant’s heart whether he’s advocating for unhoused neighbors, managing shelter operations, or leading worship from the keyboard.

Please join us, our Board of Directors, and our entire Serve City family in congratulating Dustin Bowman as we step boldly into this next chapter of Restoring Dignity, Rebuilding Community, and Renewing Hope! 🌟🙌
