Serve City is an outreach center in Hamilton, Ohio, dedicated to serving the needs of Butler County's low-income and homeless individuals and families, offering help and hope to our neighbors in need. Our programs include:

Serve City's latest initiative, The Source, offers a multi-ministry, multi-purpose venue space hosting a wide array of community pop-up events. This allows Serve City to expand upon existing service areas to offer even more for our community in need. Pop-Up Food Pantry -

Every Tuesday
10:00 a.m. - Noon (Must be in line by 11:45a.m.) only and proof of Butler County residence
Under 18 - Birth certificate or insurance card only. Donations are gladly accepted at the Pantry Monday through Saturday, 8:00am to 2:00pm. The Serve City Residential Shelter - A homeless shelter designed for those who are wishing to end the cycle of homelessness and move forward into housing stability and independence. Intake is done between 8am-4pm, Monday-Friday. Requirements include proof of residence in Butler County, some form of identification, and a clean sex-offender record. (Other rules and requirements will be shared at intake). Neighbors can stay at the Shelter for up to 45 days. Serve City Transitional Housing - Serve City has Group Living apartments available to our low-income neighbors in our shelter and our community. Applications are available upon request at the Shelter.

Behind every warm, nourishing meal served at our shelter and community tables, there is an incredible group of difference-makers standing right behind the counter.

🎯 World Homelessness Day is about more than just finding shelter. It’s about restoring the connection we all need to thrive. 🌍💙

When a neighbor loses their home, they lose much more than a roof overhead. They lose their grounding, their routines, their safety net and too often, the community that keeps them visible. Without relationships and support, even the strongest of us can feel completely lost.

Today, we are reflecting on how critical it is to build networks of support around those experiencing homelessness. Because a bed can keep someone safe for the night, but a community is what helps them rebuild for a lifetime.

Pulling a makeshift wagon down the street, carrying everything he owned. Today, Joe is carrying renewed hope. 🛒➡️🏡🙌

If you've spent time in Hamilton, you might have seen Joe: head down, pulling a wagon with his entire life packed inside, retreating into a tent in the woods because the weight of relationships and shelter life felt too heavy.

When Joe lost his wife, deep grief and depression took hold, leading into a painful cycle of addiction and homelessness. Over two years, he visited Serve City more than seven times.

By February, his family posted on social media desperately searching for him fearing they would never see him alive again.

When Joe walked back through our doors in March, he had lost significant weight and was at the very end of his rope. But our team didn't give up on him. Dustin sat down with Joe, shared his own journey, and connected him directly with Matt at Heritage House. That very day, Joe said yes to a fresh start.

Look at what grace, brotherhood, and hard work have done in 6 months:
🔨 Working Daily: Joe has maintained steady, honest employment every single day since March.

⚖️ Legal Redemption: He attended every court appearance, earning open praise from Judge Gattermeier as he phases out of the empowerment docket.
🕊️ 6-Month Milestone: This past Sunday at City on a Hill Church, we celebrated Joe phasing up in his discipleship program!

Best of all? Sitting right beside him to celebrate were his brother and sister—reunited with the loved one they thought was lost forever. 😭❤️

No one is ever too far gone, and no story is beyond redemption when a community chooses to wrap around someone with dignity and accountability.

From working on the shelter floor to leading and giving back: Amber’s story will move your heart. 🛏️➡️🌟💪

When Amber "AJ" Johnson walked through the doors of a shelter, she was in the middle of the hardest battle of her life. Facing rock bottom, fighting through deep uncertainty and trauma.

Most people might look at a moment like that and see a dead end. But God wasn't finished writing her story.

Through determination, faith, and a community of support that refused to let her give up, Amber took back her life step by step:

🛠️ Facing the Battle: Confronted the challenges of housing instability and addiction head-on with courage and resilience.

🌱 Rebuilding from the Ground Up: Transformed pain into purpose, establishing stability and independence.

🤝 Leading the Way: Stepped up as an inspiring community leader who now actively reaches back to pull others up behind her!

Amber’s journey proves that our lowest moments do not get the final word. When dignity is restored, leaders are born.

Transformation like Amber's requires neighbors who are willing to stand in the gap so no one has to fight alone.

Cloth house slippers taped together. Jeans held up by rope. But Robert wasn’t there for himself. 👟🥫💙

When Robert, a man in his early fifties, walked into our pantry today, his priority wasn’t his worn-out clothes or the duct tape keeping his shoes together.

He was there with one mission: to get food for his elderly mother, who is showing advancing signs of dementia. With every bit of his energy focused on caring for her around the clock, there was simply nothing left for himself.

Our volunteers didn't just hand him groceries and say goodbye. They stepped into the Blessing Boutique with him:

🧦 Found a sturdy, well-fitting pair of shoes and fresh, clean socks.

👕 Replaced his worn garments with quality clothing.

🛒 Sent him home with an abundance of nutritious food for him and his mom.

After the shift, one of our volunteers pulled Dustin aside. She admitted she had come in having a rough morning and "just wasn't feeling it." But helping Robert stopped her in her tracks. She said it completely changed her perspective and reminded her why she gives her time and support: It’s for Robert.

Dignity is fragile, but a simple pair of shoes and a loving community can restore it in an instant.

Generosity isn’t just something God wants FROM us it’s something He wants FOR us. 🎁🕊️🙌

Why do we give?

It’s easy to look at giving as an obligation, a budget line item, or simply "what we can spare." But true generosity shifts our entire perspective:

🤲 It resets our hearts: Reminding us that everything we hold belonged to God first.

🚀 It moves the mission: Propelling the work of the Kingdom forward and upward in our world.

🛡️ It frees us: Breaking the subtle grip of greed and materialism over our lives.

🔄 It transforms us: Because radical generosity sparks radical change in our families, churches, and communities.

Jesus reminded us that it is truly more blessed to give than to receive. When God’s blessing flows into our lives, it was never meant to stop with us it’s meant to flow through us.

As you watch this today, ask yourself: What would it look like this year to not just ask "What can I spare?" but boldly ask, "What will it take?"

Today, our community pauses to celebrate the dignity of work and the dedication of laborers everywhere. But behind the scenes of our city, there is a special group of workers whose tireless efforts often go unseen.

To the shelter specialists working third shift in the quiet hours of the night...

To the case managers walking alongside neighbors through paperwork, heartbreak, and breakthroughs...

To the kitchen and pantry crews ensuring nobody has to face an empty stomach...

To the outreach teams meeting people exactly where they are in the streets, under bridges, and in the woods...

Important Update Regarding City Worship Tomorrow

City Worship is canceled tomorrow due to the ongoing roof replacement project at The Source.

While we love gathering together, safety comes first, and the active construction means the building is off-limits for services this week.

When we resume: Next Saturday at our regular time of 7p.

From living in a tent in the woods to signing their own leases! "Josh" and "Mary's" incredible breakthrough! ⛺➡️🔑🏢

For Josh and Mary, "home" was never a guarantee. Between childhood homelessness, discrimination, and severe mental health battles, neither of them had ever held a key or had a lease in their own name.

When their first shelter stay felt overwhelming, they ended up surviving in the woods of Hamilton, living out of a tent and scraping for food. But deep down, they wanted a real future together.

They walked back into Serve City with one promise: We will do whatever it takes.

With dedicated case management, employment coaching, and mental health support wrapping around them, look at what they've accomplished in just the last few months:

🧠 Prioritized Mental Health: Connected with consistent therapy and medical care to build everyday resilience.

💼 Steady Employment: Overcame workplace anxiety, nailed their interviews, and secured reliable jobs.

⚖️ Legal Freedom: Mary paid off all court fines and graduated probation; Josh just completed his final fine payment!

🔑 A Place to Call Home: Both officially moved into their own units at our 9th Street Apartments—and October’s rent is already paid!

Their next goal? Saving up together to find their permanent, forever home.

Josh and Mary’s victory is proof that when an entire community rallies around our neighbors with dignity, structure, and real support, cycles of homelessness can be broken.
