While the Ohio Pollinator Habitat Initiative has paused their collection this year we at Butler SWCD will still be accepting Milkweed Pods. Pods can be dropped off Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM. Collection bin will sit in our hallway for drop off through the fall.

Please follow our helpful hints to harvest your pods correctly.

**Don't harvest pods too early or they will rot and mold, making seeds non-viable.**

Trash can clog and block storm drains and culverts, leading to flooding. Trash can also smother important habitat and put aquatic life at risk as trash can be confused for food. Cleaning up trash is one of the easiest ways to make a difference – don’t litter and pick up trash where you can. Also, participate in one of our cleanups that we have year-round!

For Ohio Stormwater Awareness Week, we are highlighting common stormwater pollutants. Aside from nutrients, sediment is the other most common stormwater pollutant in our streams and rivers.

Sediment can come from construction activities, stream erosion, and earth moving that disturbs soils. It is extremely hard to track where sediment pollution is flowing from, making it a nonpoint source pollutant. Any activity that results in earth moving disturbing earth materials should take precautions to reduce sediment pollution into local waterways.

For Ohio Stormwater Awareness Week, we are always talking about stormwater pollution and how it negatively impacts local waterways. But what are the stormwater pollutants, and where do they come from?

One of the most common pollutants found in stormwater is nutrients. When you fertilize your lawn, you feed it nutrients, like nitrate and phosphate. While this can help grass and plants grow, excess fertilizer can run off into ponds, streams, and rivers and harm aquatic life. Follow the tips below on how to properly apply fertilizers.
