New Haven Oratorio Choir

The New Haven Oratorio Choir is a community-based, auditioned chamber choir that provides the New Haven,CT region with unique and intimate choral performances.

We promote and support living composers in addition to performing earlier works. The New Haven Oratorio Choir is committed to performances of high quality along with the warm and inviting character that distinguishes our concerts and that our audiences have come to expect. Our goal and focus is to provide the New Haven region with intimate choral music. We strive to provide our singers with opport

unities to learn and grow musically, to inspire our audiences with superb performances of old and new music alike, and to educate our performers and the public in a repertoire of well-known and lesser known works and even newly composed music. With the 2012-13 season, NHOC celebrates 50 years of musical discovery and we will continue with our commitment to provide an innovative exploration of music for all times.

Artistic Director Daniel Shaw is a conductor and composer and music teacher who specializes in small ensembles. He received degrees in music (B.A. Dartmouth College), choral conducting (M.M. Emory University) and music education (M.M. University of Toronto). Shaw is Founder and Artistic Director of the Connecticut-based Composer's Choir, a group of eight professional singers which has performed and recorded over 45 works by over 20 composers from across the United States since its inception in 2010. Shaw is also Founder and Artistic Director of the American Radio Choir, a professional choir comprised of distinguished singers in New York City which is dedicated to recording and distributing new works by living American composers.

Calling all singers!!
If you or someone you know is thinking about joining a singing group this fall please consider the New Haven Oratorio Choir. We are a small choir with a big sound and a passion for singing classical music, whether it be Renaissance period madrigals or crunchy modern pieces.

We are the "fun choir" known for our festive after concert receptions and our annual Cabaret fundraiser, where we let our hair down to entertain our patrons.

We're so back! 🎤

Auditions for our 2026-27 season are on deck! This fall, We'll be singing works by Thompson, Haydn, Debussy, and more!

Rehearsals are every Wednesday night from 8-10 PM at St. Thomas's Episcopal Church on 830 Whitney Avenue, New Haven.

Do you like to sing?

Do you like to have fun? Would you like to be challenged to sing your best with others? The New Haven Oratorio Choir offers all this and we want you!

The NHOC will be holding auditions for our 2026-27 season. We will be singing works by Randall Thompson, Haydn, Debussy and other favorites. Rehearsals are on Wednesday evenings, 8-10 PM at St Thomas's Episcopal Church, 830 Whitney Ave, New Haven.

💐 The New Haven Oratorio Choir would like to take a moment to recognize and celebrate the life of one of our beloved members, Christine 'Chris' Shadle. While she is no longer with us, her memory shall live on in our hearts and voices. A kind soul, a powerful intellectual, and a benevolent friend who sang from the heart. We love and miss you. 🕊️

Many thanks to all of you who supported the NHOC during the Great Give. We have raised $6910! which is very close to our goal of $8000.

But, if you intended to donate but somehow missed the timing, it's not too late. There is still time to donate! Donations are being accepted through Monday May 11th!!

The "Great Give" officially begins tomorrow morning and goes on to 8pm on Thursday!

This is your opportunity to support the NHOC in its mission to provide intimate choral performances for the New Haven Area. If you attended Saturday's concert "Annelies" you know how committed we are to sharing challenging and beautiful music with our audience.

Annelies is a powerful and profound oratorio based on the Diary of Anne Frank. It is alternately beautiful, powerful, and terrifying, and its connection to modern-day events is hard to ignore. It will move you.
