October Blooms in the Front Yard

Who says orchid season ends with summer? Here in Los Osos, the cool coastal autumn brings another round of flowers. This week, Laelia anceps, Lycaste hybrids, and Sarcochilus are blooming together outdoors, each taking advantage of our mild temperatures in its own way.

One of the pleasures of growing orchids along the Central Coast is discovering just how many can thrive outside. Some appreciate the cooler nights, others enjoy our marine influence, and a few seem perfectly happy to flower whenever they’re ready.

All photographed in October in the front yard of Jeff Parham, Los Osos, California.
