🎉 Please join us in welcoming Amy Marlan as one of the newest members of the Rotary Club of Pismo Beach Five Cities Satellite Club! 💙💛

Amy is the owner of Amy Marlan Photography, a full-service portrait studio serving San Luis Obispo County and beyond. 📸 With nearly 20 years of experience and a degree in Graphic Communications and Design, she specializes in brand photography, headshots, pet photography, family portraits, and senior portraits.

Amy’s passion for community shines just as brightly as her talent behind the camera. ❤️ She is currently in her third year of Pet Portraits with Purpose, a wonderful project that has raised nearly $10,000 for the U-Pick Pantry at New Life Community Center in Pismo Beach, which serves more than 41,000 people each year. 🐾🥫

Outside of the studio, Amy loves spending time outdoors hiking, camping, and fishing with her husband, Ernie, their four adult children, and their two beloved dogs. 🏕️🎣🐶

Her love for photography began at the age of 10 when her Nana gifted her first camera, and from that moment on, she never looked back. 📷✨

We are thrilled to welcome Amy’s creativity, heart for service, and community spirit to our Rotary family. We know she will make a wonderful addition to our growing Satellite Club!

🌟🤝 Fellowship, friendship, and fun... that’s what Rotary is all about! 💙💛

Our Rotary Club of Pismo Beach Five Cities Satellite Club had a fantastic Thursday evening gathering at Todo Bueno upstairs in the SLO Public Market! 🌮✨ It was a wonderful time of networking, connecting, and getting to know one another a little better.

The evening kicked off with an inspiring message from our very own Katelyn Ferrini 💫, followed by club updates and reminders from Joel. We also spent time discussing our upcoming major fundraiser, 🔥🌞 Summer Sizzle 🌞🔥, and all the exciting things ahead for our club!

A huge congratulations goes out to our Satellite member, Mickey Malotte, for earning his RED BADGE! 💙🎉 Way to go, Mickey! 👏👏

We also enjoyed two outstanding Member Spotlights:�🌟 Douglas Trawick, Executive Director of the YMCA�🌿 Leila Daniel, Executive Director of One Cool Earth

🎉 Please join us in welcoming Dr. Sarah Conn as one of the newest members of the Rotary Club of Pismo Beach Five Cities Satellite Club! 💙💛

Sarah’s journey began in Minnesota, where she developed a love for science and the outdoors before making the move to California in 2000 in search of more sunshine and fewer mosquitoes! ☀️😄 She earned her Bachelor of Science in Conservation Biology from the University of Minnesota and later received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine in 2006.

It was at UC Davis that Sarah met her husband, Dr. Joel Conn, and together they made Pismo Beach their home in 2009. Today, they own and practice together at Pismo Beach Veterinary Clinic, serving the pets and families of our community with compassion and care. 🐾❤️

Sarah and Joel are proud parents to two sons, Jude and Jackson. As a family, they enjoy traveling, exploring the outdoors, taking in ocean views from their back deck, playing games, and creating and enjoying delicious meals together. 🌊✈️🍽️

Sarah’s commitment to service extends far beyond her veterinary practice. She has served on the Board of Managers for the YMCA of San Luis Obispo County and the Diversity Coalition of SLO County. She is also a graduate of Leadership South County and is slated to serve as Chair of the YMCA Board in 2028. 🌟🤝
When she’s not caring for animals or serving the community, Sarah can often be found on an Ultimate Frisbee field! 🥏 She is an avid player who participates several times a week, captains local leagues and tournaments, and travels nationally and internationally for competition and fun, often alongside Joel and their son Jude.

We are thrilled to welcome Sarah’s passion for service, leadership, and community to our Rotary family. Please help us give her a warm Rotary welcome! 👏✨

😂💙 This week at the Rotary Club of Pismo Beach Five Cities, our fearless President Todd was out of town, so Past President Shannon Bowdey stepped in to help keep the meeting running smoothly!

Of course, no meeting would be complete without honoring Todd’s favorite tradition… ending with a wonderfully bad dad joke. 😆

But since Todd wasn’t there, Shannon put her own spin on it with a bad mom joke:

For the record, Shannon is a Catholic mom too, so she’s allowed to make that joke! ❤️🙏

🎉🎂 Happy 80th Birthday, Steve Curry! 🎂🎉

Today we are celebrating one of our very own Rotary family members, Steve Curry! 🥳

Steve’s story is one of hard work, entrepreneurship, and service to our country and community. Born in San Francisco on June 17, 1946, Steve attended college before being drafted into the United States Army, where he proudly served in Vietnam with the 589th Combat Engineer Battalion from 1967-1968. 🇺🇸

Before and after his military service, Steve demonstrated an incredible entrepreneurial spirit. From running a cut flower business while attending college to opening his own retail store and wholesale business specializing in belt buckles and leather goods, Steve has built a life marked by dedication, determination, and perseverance. 🌹💼

We are grateful for Steve’s service, his friendship, and the positive impact he continues to make as a member of the Rotary Club of Pismo Beach Five Cities. ❤️⚙️

Please join us in wishing Steve a very Happy Birthday and a year ahead filled with good health, happiness, and many wonderful adventures! 🎈🎁🎉

We were honored to welcome our Rotary District 5240 Governor, Mike Dutra, and his beautiful wife, Cindy, who joined us for this special occasion. 💙💛

Governor Mike didn’t arrive empty-handed! 🎁🏆 He took time to recognize one of our own, Past President Dr. Joel Conn, who currently serves as our Assistant District Governor. Joel was presented with a stunning crystal trophy and honored with the “Opportunities Await Award for Outstanding Leadership 2025-2026.” 🌟👏

A lifelong San Luis Obispo County resident, Brandee proudly grew up in Grover Beach and now calls Cayucos home, where she lives with her husband, Daniel, and their children, Maleah and Micah. 🌊🏡❤️

Brandee serves as the Development Director for Lumina Alliance and is also a Board Member of Kid C.A.T. (Creating Awareness Together). Her passion for service is deeply rooted in her own life experiences. Having often felt like an outsider growing up, she has dedicated her life and career to helping others feel seen, valued, supported, and connected.

For more than 20 years, Brandee has been a champion for youth, families, and individuals through leadership roles in workforce development, social services, and community-based programs. Her commitment to making a difference embodies the very spirit of Rotary and Service Above Self. ✨🤝

When she’s not working or volunteering, you’ll find Brandee cheering on her daughter at club volleyball tournaments 🏐, gathering family and friends around the table 🍽️, and investing her time and energy into the community she loves.

💙💛 Rotary in Action: Investing in Our Community! 💛💙

Today’s Rotary Club of Pismo Beach Five Cities meeting was both inspiring and impactful as we welcomed our 2025-2026 Community Giving Distribution Program recipients. 🌟

This year, our club is proud to distribute $15,000 to outstanding local nonprofit organizations that are making a difference throughout the Five Cities and San Luis Obispo County. Each Rotarian had the opportunity to help direct funding to causes that reflect Rotary’s commitment to service and community impact. 🤝✨

We were honored to learn more about the incredible work being done by organizations supporting healthcare, education, conservation, youth development, victims’ advocacy, homelessness services, scholarships, public safety, women’s assistance programs, and access to medical care. ❤️🌎

A special thank you to our Community Service Director, Michelle Wright, for coordinating this important event and for bringing together these remarkable organizations that provide invaluable services to our community every day. 👏💐
