The land has given to us. Now it’s our turn to give back!

For years, Suma Sil has held space for ceremony, healing, connection, and community. Now, as winter approaches, we have an opportunity to come together in service to the land that has given us so much.

Join Circles of Empowerment on November 7 & 8 for a weekend of land stewardship, community, and ceremony!

With the possibility of heavy winter rains, we’re gathering to repair and maintain the roads that allow us to access this sacred land. Every helping hand makes a difference!

🔥 Traditional Mayan Fire Ceremony in the evening, led by José Ajpu Muñoz
🏕️ Camping available all weekend, beginning Friday, November 6

Whether you’ve spent years gathering at Suma Sil or are just beginning to connect with our community, we welcome you to join us.

Caring for the land is an act of reciprocity. Together, we can honor what this place has given us and help protect it for generations to come.

Heat wave coming in strong this month! Grandfather sun is making his presence known and felt here in the central coast 🌞

For the safety of all participants, sweat has been canceled for this month. But wait- there’s more!

With the water returning this winter there is much to do to prepare the land and tend our ceremonial spaces. We are calling for all capable hands to please make your way down to Suma Sil EARLY to beat the heat.

Bring sturdy shoes, gloves, lots of water +electrolytes, and some nourishment.

Come get a little dirty with us, spend time with this beautiful land, and have some laughs with community. Hope to see you there 🌸

Hello Sistars and Brothers! Notice: Temperature is too high for Sweat Lodge on 10/17, so that event is cancelled. Stay tuned for notice of possible rescheduling for 10/24.

Also, I mistakenly said that José was pouring water. Hua will pour in October, if it can be reschedued to 10/24. José will pour in November.

What Will You Carry Into the Circle?

For weeks, we have been preparing.

We have gathered our warm layers. Filled our water containers. Chosen our ribbons. Prepared our Giveaway gifts. Raised the tipis. Built the Lodges. Tended the land.

But as Long Dance draws near, there is another kind of preparation to make.

What will you carry with you into the Circle?

What prayer has been asking for your attention?

What are you ready to release—or call into your life?

What needs to be grieved, celebrated, forgiven, remembered, or transformed?

What sacred dream are you ready to Dance awake?

Each of us arrives with our own intention, but when we enter the Circle, our prayers become part of something larger than ourselves.

We do not enter the Circle alone.

We carry those who came before us—our mothers and grandmothers, our teachers and Elders, and the people who tended these Ceremonies, kept the fires burning, and carried these traditions so that one day we could arrive here.

And we Dance for those who will come after us.

For the Maidens who will become Mothers and Grandmothers. For the people who have not yet found this community. For another generation who may inherit these teachings, this land, and this Ceremony because we chose to tend them while they were ours to carry.

For those who came before.
For those who will come after.
And for the life asking to be lived through us now.

As you finish packing, sit with your intention.

You have your water.
You have your warm clothes.
You have your tent.

What else are you bringing?

Come with your prayers, your gratitude, your grief and your joy. Come with what you are ready to release and what you are ready to create.

Bring your unique medicine to the whole.

And together, let us Dance our sacred dream awake.

Trade Circle & Raffle Lodge: Come Ready to Play, Give & Support the Circle!

The Trade Circle
On Friday afternoon, our Trade Circle opens!
Bring your arts, crafts, handmade goods, or services to offer for sale or barter. Wander through, see what your fellow community members have created, trade with one another, and support the many gifts within our circle.

And then comes one of the especially fun parts of the weekend...

The Raffle Lodge!
In preparation for Long Dance, our Lodges put together beautiful raffle baskets filled with treasures—often including ceremonial goods, self care items, tarot and oracle decks, trinkets, items in the beauty way, and other special surprises.

And the raffle is MUCH more fun when everybody plays!

Bring some cash. Buy a handful of tickets. Wander around and see which baskets are calling your name! Put one ticket in ten different places—or put twenty into the basket you absolutely have to take home. Encourage your sisters to play. Get a little competitive. 😄

Be generous and have fun with it!

Because underneath all of that fun is something incredibly important:

The raffle is a significant fundraiser for Circles of Empowerment.

The money we raise through Long Dance helps support the ongoing operations of Suma Sil—the land that makes Long Dance and so many of our other ceremonies and gatherings possible.

Caring for and operating this land requires real financial resources. Maintaining the ceremonial grounds, infrastructure, supplies, insurance, firewood, propane, repairs, and the many ordinary expenses of keeping Suma Sil operating continue throughout the year.
We need our community’s help to sustain it.

The raffle gives us a joyful way to do that together.
One person buying a few tickets helps.

A whole community enthusiastically participating becomes a fundraiser!

The Circle Is Gathering- Long Dance is almost here!

In just a few days, we will begin gathering at Suma Sil to build our ceremonial village, tend the fires, raise the lodges, welcome one another, and come together to dance, sing, and pray through the night.

If you’ve been feeling the call to join us this year, now is the time to say yes.

Long Dance brings together women from the beginning of moontime through the 13th moon to dance from sunset to sunrise—each sister bringing her own prayers, intentions, gifts, and unique medicine to the whole.

Come put your feet on the land.

Come dance your prayers.

Come with whatever you are carrying and whatever you are ready to create.

Thunder Lodge: How the Brothers Hold the Dance

While the Sisters Dance from sunset to sunrise, the Brothers of Thunder Lodge hold an important role in supporting and protecting the ceremonial space.
Their work begins before the Dance itself.

Throughout the night, Thunder Lodge maintains scheduled sentry responsibilities, helping hold the boundaries of the ceremonial space while the Sisters Dance, sing, drum, and pray.

It is a role of service, presence, and responsibility.
While much of the Ceremony centers on the women within the Dance Circle, Long Dance is held by a larger community. Thunder Lodge is one of the ways the Brothers contribute to that collective work—supporting the container so the Sisters can remain focused on the prayers and work of the Dance.

For Brothers who feel called to serve, Thunder Lodge offers a meaningful way to participate in Long Dance through preparation, purification, and service.
