ONE WEEK OLD- And just like that our adorable little holiday litter is already a week old. Little tinsel the runt is still the smallest, but the biggest is now Joy our little chocolate girl. Frosty makes the most noise and they all just like to drink milk and sleep right now. They are starting to change colors every day and I think at least two of them are going to have funny wiry hair like mama. Holly mama has been the most fantastic mom. I’ve never seen cleaner puppies in my life. They are happy and growing very very quickly.

Interesting thought

Some dogs are tethered to a kennel.
Others are tethered to our expectations.
And that tether is much harder to see.

They live inside our homes now.
They sleep on orthopaedic beds.
A few toys to play with. A wardrobe full of coats.
They are loved. Oh, how they are loved.

But a loved life is not always a lived life.

We shrink their world for convenience.
We want a dog that fits into our life,
not a life that stretches to fit a dog.

So before they even arrive, the plan is made.
They will be calm when people come over.
They will be fine with 10 minutes around the same block.
They won't complain when we skip it.
Five minutes of fetch while dinner cooks.
And they will be my loyal companion.

But what if who they are doesn't fit the plan?
What if they were bred to run for miles and we give them a block?
What if they were bred to use their nose, and we never give them anything worth sniffing?

So the cracks show.
The chewed rug.
The paint scratched off the wall.
Whining at the door.
Jumping all over guests because it's the most excitement they've had in 8 days.

And we call it misbehaviour.

So we train them harder.
Not to understand them better-
but to make them fit neatly again.
Calmer.
Quieter.
They need to accept this is the life we decided they should have.

After all, dogs are meant to be loyal companions.
We never stop to ask if we are being a loyal companion to them.

We look at photos of dogs chained to kennels and feel angry.
We all agree, that's no life for a dog.
We give ours a bed instead of a rag on the ground.
A beautiful home instead of a chain.
A couple of toys instead of dirt and twigs.
We just don't see that the chain can still be there

We’re looking for the right home for this sweet boy, Beau. 🤍

Beau is a 6-year-old Great Pyrenees who loves kids, enjoys playing with other dogs off leash, and loves greeting new people when he’s out and about. He’s also a true guardian of his people and his home.

His mom is raising a new baby on her own without much help, and as difficult as this decision is, she knows she isn’t able to give Beau the time and attention he deserves right now because she is spread so thin.

Beau can be reactive on leash, so he needs someone who understands that and is comfortable working with him. He would do best with someone who understands the protective nature of his breed and can give him the love, attention, and space he needs.

The right fit is the most important thing. His mom would also love to find a home where she could still visit him, if possible. If you think you might be a good match or know someone who could be, please reach out. 🤍

Kirk and Michelle Anderson have chosen our little chocolate girl and named her Joy. Michelle said that “they experience
pure “JOY” through simple moments with their girls Kona and Hana with beach walks, belly rubs and a lot of love. Thank you Novy’s Ark for spreading your love and “JOY” in all you do.” We thank you both for supporting our Rescue and we can’t wait to see this little girl live up to her name.

MONDAY MORNING ROLL CALL. Our adoptable dogs are all ready for trick-or-treating. Maggie our four year-old 30 pound girl. Good with other dogs great on the leash takes time to warm up in the house, especially to men. Hope our snuggle bug of a nine year-old poodle mix. Loves other dogs loves kids. Churro four year-old 10 pound Yorkie mix. Shy but very sweet. Gus are six month old dachshund mix needs a home with another dog or a very active home very affectionate. Roxy a very easy-going 3 1/2 year-old Shepherd mix great on the leash crate trained great with other dogs and loves kids.
