Greenwich Green & Clean As each season puts its imprint on Greenwich, so does Greenwich Green & Clean. Since 1986, we have committed ourselves to beautifying shared public spaces.

Since our founding in 1986, we have remained committed to developing partnerships to beautify the public spaces we all share. Our projects include hanging summer and winter baskets in Central Greenwich, landscaping and maintaining town highway exits, organizing town-wide clean ups and invasive plant removal. 🌺 Still Blooming Beautifully at the End of August

🍃 As we head into September, our summer hanging baskets are still looking beautiful along Greenwich Avenue — continuing a longtime Greenwich Green & Clean tradition of bringing color and beauty to our town each summer.

❤️begonias and 🤍💙 scaevola created this year’s red, white and blue palette, a festive nod to America’s 250th anniversary.

🌟 We’re especially grateful to everyone whose support of Greenwich Green & Clean helps make traditions like this possible, along with the many hands that help with planting, preparation and nightly watering throughout the season.

🌿 The Greening of Greenwich Avenue

💚 We’re so pleased to see the newly planted curbside extensions featured in the Greenwich Sentinel! This project is a wonderful example of what can happen when the Town, local professionals, businesses, and community organizations work together toward a shared goal.

🌱 A very special thank you to Kim Conte of Conte & Conte, GG&C board member, who generously contributed her time and landscape design expertise pro bono to help bring the remaining curbside extensions to life. Her thoughtful plant palette was designed to provide year-round interest while complementing the ongoing greening of Greenwich Avenue.

🤝 We’re grateful to the Town of Greenwich, DPW, Parks & Recreation, Bridge Nurseries, James Doyle Design Associates, and everyone who helped make this collaboration possible.

🌿 NOMINATIONS OPEN FOR GREENWICH GREEN & CLEAN’S BEAUTIFICATION AWARDS! 🌸

Greenwich Green & Clean is still accepting nominations for our Beautification Awards! 🌼

Town residents, businesses, and community organizations that have created attractive horticultural or environmental improvements are eligible. Floral and native plantings, streetscape enhancements, and landscaping projects that beautify our community and are visible to the public are all welcome. 🌱🏡

📸 To nominate a project, send photos — taken in any season — along with the location and a brief description to [email protected].

📅 Nomination deadline: September 15

🏆 Award winners will be recognized on Thursday, October 15 at Sam Bridge Nursery & Greenhouses on North Street, with a festive early-evening cocktail reception. 🥂🌿

✨📣Greenwich Green & Clean Announces Beautification Awards as Its 40th Anniversary Celebration Continues

🗓️ Save the Date! Greenwich Green & Clean will recognize both public and private contributions to the beauty of our town on Thursday, October 15 at Sam Bridge Nursery and Greenhouses on North Street with a festive, early evening cocktail reception. All are invited.

🏆 Town residents, businesses and community organizations who have created attractive horticultural or environmental improvements to the town will be honored.

🌱 Floral or native plantings, streetscape and landscaping projects which enhance the property must be visible to the public.

📧 The community is welcome to submit candidates for awards by sending pictures, taken in any season, with identifying information to [email protected]. The deadline for nominations is September 15.

🪣 Grab your gloves and join Greenwich Green & Clean for the annual International Coastal Cleanup!

Greenwich Point Park (Tod’s Point)

This is part of a global initiative to protect our oceans and waterways by removing harmful non-biodegradable trash from the shoreline. It’s a great way to get involved, make a difference, and enjoy the beauty of our coast.

♻️ How It Works:

• All collected trash will be counted and recorded.
• The data will be submitted to Save the Sound, who will then forward the data to the Ocean Conservancy.
• This data helps track pollution and informs global strategies to protect marine environments.

🙌 Who Can Join?

• Everyone! Pre-registration is encouraged, but walk-ins are always welcome.
• Check-in is at the parking lot across from the first concession stand.

• We will provide gloves and buckets, but feel free to bring your own!

⭐️🌳Starwood — Building a Better Tomorrow

🌱On August 6, the Starwood team joined us for a morning of hands-on stewardship.

☀️Despite the heat and humidity, volunteers brought great energy as they removed invasive plants and added native grasses and shrubs around the playground and field, including:

🌾 Standing Ovation Little Bluestem — a native grass known for its strong upright form and beautiful multi-season color.

🌾 Northern Sea Oats — a shade-tolerant native grass with distinctive seed heads that provides food and cover for wildlife and serves as a host plant for native skipper butterflies.

🌿 After clearing sumac beside the field, the team also planted 15 Bottlebrush Buckeyes — native shrubs known for their striking white summer blooms.

These new plantings will continue to grow, adding beauty, habitat, and biodiversity to the park for years to come.

And we have to mention the perfect volunteer-day T-shirts: a star + a tree = Starwood. ⭐🌳 Brilliant! With “Building a Better Tomorrow” on the shirts, the message could not have been more fitting.

Yes, Starwood — you certainly helped build a better tomorrow. 🌱

💚🌿Community collaboration in action at Mill Pond.

📧 After a resident emailed Rachel Khanna, a member of GG&C’s Board of Advisors, with concerns about debris that had been sitting in Mill Pond for years, Rachel helped bring the right people together to find a safe solution.

💪 With support from the Town of Greenwich and Fire Chief Joseph McHugh, volunteers from the Sound Beach and Glenville Volunteer Fire Companies stepped in to remove long-standing debris from the pond.

🌟 What may look like a simple cleanup was made possible by a resident who raised a concern, individuals who helped find a solution, and volunteers who stepped in to get the job done.
Thank you to everyone involved in making this collaborative effort possible.

🪏 A safer trail, made possible by GYCP teens. 🌿🥾

🌟 In just two hours, participants in the Greenwich Youth Conservation Program (GYCP) transformed a section of the Pemberwick Park trail, creating a safer and more welcoming path for everyone to enjoy.

👏 Working under the guidance of Greg Belicka, these dedicated teens tackled the project with incredible energy and teamwork, proving that meaningful change can happen in a short amount of time when people come together with a shared purpose.

🌱 Established in 1978, the Greenwich Youth Conservation Program is celebrating 48 years of giving local teens the opportunity to earn, learn, and give back to their community. Overseen by the Town of Greenwich Departments of Human Services and Parks & Recreation, the program provides hands-on conservation experience while helping care for our parks, trails, and open spaces. More than 4,000 Greenwich teens have participated since the program began.

💚💙 A heartfelt thank you to the GYCP participants for their hard work, to Greg for his leadership, and to everyone who helps inspire the next generation of environmental stewards.

Your efforts are creating lasting improvements that our community will enjoy for years to come.

🌳💚 The shade you enjoy today didn’t appear overnight.

🌱 This beautiful canopy over the picnic area at Byram Park is the result of years of care and collaboration. In 2023 and 2024, AQR summer interns worked alongside Greenwich Green & Clean and the Town of Greenwich Parks Department to remove dead and declining trees and plant new ones for future generations.

🌟 Today, those young trees are growing, providing welcome shade, enhancing the park’s beauty, and creating a more inviting place for families and friends to gather.
It’s a wonderful reminder that beautification is never a one-time project. Every tree planted, every volunteer hour, and every partnership is an investment that continues to grow for years to come.

👏 A heartfelt thank you to the AQR summer interns for their hard work and enthusiasm, and to the Greenwich Parks Department for their continued partnership and care. Together, we’re creating a greener, more beautiful Greenwich—one tree at a time. 🌿
