⭐100 Years of Music, Magic, and Joy⭐

A boisterous - Thank You! - to everyone who joined us last weekend for our wonderful centennial finale concert and reception! Truly, the Greenwich Choral Society could not be, "GCS", without each and every one of you.

We were so delighted to have two exceptional GCS directors sharing the podium and conducting choristers from years current and past - a true nod to the lasting legacy of this 100 year-old Greenwich community staple. Paul Mueller, Christine Howlett, a resounding cheer for you both!

You won't have to wait too long before seeing us again. Stay tuned for a chance to hear the chorus this summer in late June, or, be a part of the experience yourself at our Summer Sing in August. More to come!

We've all dreamt of returning to our high school as a star; few of us do. Mezzo-soprano Holly Sorensen, a graduate of Greenwich High School, came close. Six years ago, she came within five days of returning to her alma mater as a soloist in our all-Beethoven program. A pandemic had other plans!

Now, Sorensen brings to Christ Church the same golden voice that has enchanted music lovers in Avery Fisher and Carnegie Halls. And she's not the only returnee - Eddie Pleasant has shared our stage many times; Katherine Whyte and Chad Kranak are no strangers either.

All ticket holders are invited to our Centennial Reception featuring guest speakers, light refreshments and libations, and the chance to get up close and personal with the chorus and musical leadership of The Greenwich Choral Society. After 100 years, we have some impressive stories to tell - some of our members even have decades worth!

The U.S.A. and GCS share an anniversary this year. To celebrate America's 250th and GCS's 100th, we are performing "A Tribute to the Armed Services," as well as works by American composers Aaron Copland and Alice Parker. Plus, Greenwich resident Granville Wyche Burgess, a GCS alumnus, playwrite, lyricist, and many other titles, has set "The Gettysburg Address" to music. We're delighted to have a hand in it's debut!

And, yes, we'll let a few Europeans into the mix: Handel, Verdi, Offenbach, Bizet, and Mozart.

Come celebrate 250 years of the U.S.A. and 100 years of the Greenwich Choral Society! May 16th, 4:00pm, at Christ Church Greenwich - "Encore! 100 Years of Song!"
