November is Native American Heritage Month! Throughout the month, we’re celebrating Native American women who have advanced our mission to eliminate racism and empower women.
🧡 First up: Isabella Aiukli Cornell (Choctaw Nation), a youth activist raising awareness of violence against Indigenous women.
At just 14, Isabella began organizing with Matriarch, an intertribal nonprofit supporting Native women surviving domestic abuse. In 2018, she brought the issue to the national stage with her high school prom dress: a striking red gown honoring victims of violence and drawing attention to the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW) movement and the systemic injustices Indigenous women face.
Her powerful statement made history: the dress was later inducted into the permanent collection of the Smithsonian National Museum of American History.
