We are saddened by the passing of Gloria Steinem at age 92.

A pioneering journalist, feminist leader and advocate for women’s equality, Steinem dedicated her life to challenging barriers and creating greater opportunities for women to lead.

She co-founded Ms. magazine and the National Women’s Political Caucus and was a powerful advocate for the Equal Rights Amendment and women’s representation in government. Her work helped shape the national conversation around gender equality and inspired generations of women to use their voices to create change.

Gloria Steinem’s life and work reflect a powerful truth at the heart of the YWCA mission: when women are empowered, communities and societies are stronger.

We celebrate her extraordinary life, leadership and enduring legacy—and honor the many women who continue the work she championed.

Participants of the Center for Equity and Justice's Summer Policy Advocacy Internship program were able to go to the State Capitol in Hartford yesterday to finish off the summer! Thank you to State Representative Hector Arzeno, Secretary of State Stephanie Thomas, and Governor Ned Lamont for spending the day with us!
