This Pride Month, we celebrate Sylvia Rivera, one of the Heroines of Stonewall whose advocacy helped shape the movement for LGBTQ+ rights.
A pioneering transgender activist, Sylvia fought tirelessly to ensure that the voices of transgender people, LGBTQ+ youth, and other marginalized communities were heard. Together with Marsha P. Johnson, she co-founded STAR (Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries), an organization dedicated to supporting homeless LGBTQ+ youth.
Her courage, resilience, and commitment to inclusion continue to inspire generations working toward a more just and equitable world.

This Pride Month, YWCA Greenwich celebrates Marsha P. Johnson, one of the Heroines of Stonewall whose activism helped shape the fight for LGBTQ+ rights.
A Black transgender activist, performer, and community leader, Marsha dedicated her life to advocating for some of society's most marginalized individuals. Marsha co-founded STAR (Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries) with Sylvia Rivera to provide shelter and support for homeless LGBTQ+ youth. Her advocacy for equality, dignity, and belonging continues to inspire the ongoing pursuit of justice for all.

YWCA Greenwich proudly congratulates Sergeant Carino on being named to the 2026 First 100 Plus Class by the Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic Violence.
This recognition celebrates leaders across the state who are making a meaningful impact in the lives of survivors through advocacy, collaboration, and community support. Sergeant Carino has been an incredible partner to the Harmony Project, working alongside our team to help ensure survivors of domestic and sexual violence feel supported, heard, and connected to the resources they need.
His dedication to building safer communities and supporting vulnerable individuals does not go unnoticed, and we are thrilled to see his work honored in such a meaningful way. Congratulations, Sergeant Carino, on this well-deserved recognition!
