Ready for a bit of good news? One of the cherished gardens we work to preserve, the Elizabeth Lawrence House & Garden in Charlotte, NC, has gained a new layer of legal protection. 🌿

This small city lot was the living laboratory of one of America's most prolific garden writers and landscape architects. As announced by our partners Wing Haven, owner of the property, North Carolina has recognized the site's statewide historic significance, making it the first property in Mecklenburg County recognized at the local, state, and national levels.

The Garden Conservancy holds a conservation easement that also protects the site. Archival records preserve evidence of Lawrence’s plants, design, and ideas. And a management plan guides the care of a garden that is historic, but never static.

Gratitude to all those who value and safeguard the Lawrence legacy.
