The Greenwich Art Society is the oldest artist/member-based fine arts organization in Greenwich, CT and lower Fairfield County, CT.

The Greenwich Art Society assumed its present name in 1958 when it incorporated as a non-profit, tax-exempt organization and initiated year-round art classes with professional teachers for both children and adults. Today our Studio School offers students at all skill levels – beginner, intermediate and advanced – classes in drawing, painting, sculpture and printmaking. Adult student enrollment tops 300 per year. All classes (save those en plein air) take place in our fully equipped teaching studio on the third floor of the Senior/Arts Center on Greenwich Avenue. We hold classes mornings, afternoons and evenings every day except Sundays and holidays. Our weekly classes are organized into fall, winter, spring and summer terms. Classes last from 1 hour for children to 2- to 3 hours for adults.

Program Description

This three-week workshop is for students who want to improve their drawing
skills. Drawing fundamentals such as composition, light and shadow, negative
space and mark making will be covered. In addition to drawing with pencil,
students will draw with black watercolor paint to create their compositions.

image005.pngJUROR: Antonia Pocock is a curatorial assistant at the Whitney Museum of American Art, where she organized Claes Oldenburg: Drawn from Life and contributed to “Untitled” (America) and Collection View: Louise Nevelson (all 2025). Previously, she was an adjunct faculty member in art history at Marymount Manhattan College. Her writing has been published in Art in America, Provincetown Arts, Texte zur Kunst, and Nka: Journal of Contemporary African Art as well as in monographs and exhibition catalogues including Bettina (Atelier EXB/Aperture, 2021), Peggy Guggenheim: The Last Dogaressa (Peggy Guggenheim Collection, 2020), and Hairy Who? 1966–69 (Art Institute of Chicago, 2018). Pocock earned her PhD from the Institute of Fine Arts, New York University and held fellowships at the Menil Collection, the Morgan Library & Museum, and the Museum of Modern Art.

AWARDS: Cash and other awards totaling over $2000 will be presented at the opening reception
