Our next GROW Artist in Residence is local visual artist and teacher, Tamra Hunt! During her four-week residency, Hunt will create abstract visual artwork inspired by the sounds of musical instruments, the human voice, and everyday objects.

Throughout her residency, Hunt will invite visitors into the improvisatory practice of transforming sound into visual expression through hands-on guided workshops and open studio hours where participants can freely experiment and explore. All materials will be provided, including small musical instruments and found objects for making sounds, as well as a variety of art materials to respond visually through intuitive mark making.

Join Tamra for her first workshop during First Friday on June 5 from 6-9 pm at the Greensboro Cultural Center!

It's with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to conductor Peter Perret, as he retires from Creative Greensboro and the Philharmonia of Greensboro. He has been conducting the Philharmonia since December 2012, but his music career spans long before that. After a promising start as an oboe virtuoso, Maestro Perret pursued a conducting career, winning international competitions, and conducting symphonies around the world. He then became the Music Director of the Winston Salem Symphony from 1978-2004.

Maestro Perret has also dedicated a large portion of his career to exploring the relationship between the arts and learning, going on to publish a children's music curriculum, and co-writing a book, "A Well Tempered Mind; Using Music to Help Children Listen and Learn." We appreciate Peter's dedication to sharing music and uplifting his community- he will be missed!
