We had a special visit this week at our Little Lights Childcare Center from none other than Wimee and his friend Moby! Thank you to Stephanie and Kevin from the Wimee team for coming out and blessing our kids and staff with a time of storytelling, singing, and laughter. They did a superb job keeping everyone engaged and activating our imagination and creativity! Check them out at https://wimee.tv/

This school year, we welcomed a great group of Occupational Therapy students from Western Michigan University who stopped by a few times to observe and work with our children at Little Lights. The strategies they shared with our teachers and sensory activities they provided for the children were incredibly helpful! We look forward to continuing this partnership in the future!

We will be closed today, May 25th, in observance of Memorial Day. We honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. Wishing you and your loved ones have a safe and meaningful holiday.

Members of the Agape Co-op's leadership team were able to head across the state to visit People's Food Co-op Ann Arbor! Thank you to Clay for showing the group around and answering lots of questions. It was amazing to see their space and notice how beautiful, organized, and varied a co-op can be. We are also grateful to Access of West Michigan for their partnership that allowed our Co-op to have this opportunity!

Every year, Jenison Christian School's Middle School students take a few days to go out and do service projects across our community and we are grateful they chose us as one of their spots to serve last week. They knocked it out of the park as they spread mulch, weeded, mowed, cleared trash, power washed and more to get our Little Lights Childcare Center playground and landscaping looking pristine. Check out that before and after shot of some of our landscaping! On top of that, the students collected 660 pounds of food for our food pantry! Well done and thank you to all of the staff, students, and parents who participated and made this happen!

For nearly 10 years, Shanicka and her family (her adorable kids pictured below!) have been part of the Other Way community, engaging with services from childcare support to transitional housing. We’ve had the privilege of watching her family grow and reach milestones, such as securing reliable transportation, maintaining steady employment, finding more stable housing and now taking a homebuyers class. 🔑🏠
Stories like Shanicka’s are a reminder of the resilience of Westsiders. Enjoy reading more stories of impact in our 2025 Annual Report!

Everyone deserves good food! This is something that Westside restaurant The Sovengard believes as well. We were honored that they chose to live that out by offering a delicious meal for participants of our weekly Recharge Program for neighbors who are unhoused last week. Thank you to Rick, Sissy, and the Sovengard team for serving and blessing our neighbors in this way! If you are looking for a hyper local, farm-to-table dining experience, check them out!

We asked, and you delivered! We are sitting in gratitude on this Monday after a hugely successful Stamp Out Hunger event this weekend!
Thanks to our incredible Grand Rapids community (YOU!), we received and processed around 12,500 pounds of food that will go right back to benefit our community in our food pantry.
Shout out to those who donated, to our USPS letter carriers for their partnership on this event, and to the 62 volunteers that gave a total of 192 hours and spent their Saturday helping us stay efficient and organized! This day could not have happened without each of you and shows what can be accomplished when neighbors work together! 🤝

Our Community 'Garden of Eatin' is ready for the season! Thank you to Knapp Valley Church who sent an amazing group of volunteers this past weekend to do some weeding, mowing, tilling, building of compost bins, and more to get our community garden looking top notch and ready for our neighbors to start planting!

It's Teacher Appreciation Week, so of course we need to spotlight our incredible Little Lights teachers! We are so grateful for how they show up for our kiddos every day with care and enthusiasm.
One fun fact about them is combined they have worked 93 years in early childhood education! See below to learn more about our teachers and why they chose to work in early childhood. 🫶

Judy- I have been working with children since I was 15 years old. Children have always kept my life full of happiness especially watching them grown into their own self.
Dee- The reason I started working in childcare is I simply love children. As a mother of three children truly mean everything to me. I love playing with them, making them smile and most of all making sure their needs are met.
Veronica- I got in to child care at a young age babysitting for family and I knew then taking care of kids is what I wanted to do. This is what God put on my heart to do.
Aisha- I chose to work in early childhood education simply because I wanted to take care of children. I’m a natural caregiver at heart I truly enjoy seeing my students reach different milestones life.
Karma- I chose to work in child care because I really enjoy being around kids and helping them learn and grow. It’s rewarding to see them pick up new skills and become more confident over time.
Kara- I grew up taking care of kids my whole life. After having my son I knew then caring for kids is what I was meant to do.
Telisa- Working with children is who I am, motherly and nurturing.
Antanasia- I love coming to work seeing the children's smiles and hearing their laughter. I love taking care of my babies.
