"Two CRC women, Julia Prins Vanderveen from the First Christian Reformed Church of Vancouver and Marlene Wolters from the Frankford Christian Reformed Church, were among the graduates being honoured at the Tyndale Seminary Graduation Ceremony held on May 9, 2026. Julia Prins Vanderveen received a Doctor of Ministry degree and had the distinction of serving as valedictorian. Meanwhile, Marlene Wolters earned a Master of Theology in Indigenous Studies, with all of her credits being earned through NAIITS, an Indigenous Learning Community. NAIITS and Tyndale are partner schools. It was a notable achievement for both women, marking an important milestone in their academic and spiritual journeys..."

"History is not always in the past. This past week I had the opportunity of travelling with my family to Nova Scotia.

At the beginning of our time there we visited Africville, a historic Afro Canadian neighbourhood in Halifax that was demolished in the 1960s in the name of urban development. This was a thriving community with over 800 inhabitants.

However, the city decided that under the guise of urban advancement they would seize the land and use it for their own purposes, kicking out all of those who lived there. Train tracks crisscrossed through what used to be neighborhoods. Sewage was openly dumped into the river where people used to fish for their livelihood. I knew parts of the story and so it felt important to go on this small pilgrimage. However, we were not ready to be faced with the fact that history is not always in the past..."

In this article researcher Alfiya Battalova details that disability policy is shaped by the stories we tell about disability itself. The article contrasts two broad perspectives. The first views disability as a problem to be managed, treated, or overcome. The second sees disability as part of human diversity and focuses on removing barriers so that people can fully participate in society. The Accessible Canada Act reflects this second narrative, emphasizing accessibility, inclusion, and belonging.

Some disability advocates worry that the expansion of Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID) reflects the first narrative–disability as a problem to be managed. While governments say they affirm the dignity and worth of disabled lives, many Canadians with disabilities face poverty, inadequate housing, social isolation, and limited support.

An important question becomes: does society provide the conditions necessary for people to live well before offering assistance in dying? Advocates for justice must speak out when death becomes easier to access than the support needed to flourish.

A powerful offshore earthquake struck the southern Philippines on June 8, 2026, killing at least 35 people and injuring more than 200 others. The quake triggered a landslide in Sarangani province that claimed 13 lives, while collapsing low-rise buildings, schools, and a mosque caused widespread casualties across the region.

The event also generated a one-meter tsunami that damaged coastal villages before warnings were lifted. Coming on the first day of the new school year, the disaster caused widespread panic and has prompted a massive search-and-rescue operation for missing residents believed to be trapped in the rubble.
