Do you or someone you know have 4 hours this fall to volunteer your time to make a difference in the life of an athlete?

The response to our TOPSoccer program has been incredible! We are looking for more buddies to pair with our players. Buddies can be of any age (we will pair the younger buddies with an experienced buddy). No soccer experience necessary - just a love for supporting the disability communicating and helping provide access to all players!

TOPS is a community program, not restricted to a single club. We want this program to include ALL players in West Michigan, and we hope you spread the word so that as many players as possible can access the beautiful game!

Rapids FC is thrilled to launch the first TOPSoccer program in Grand Rapids! US Youth Soccer TOPSoccer (The Outreach Program for Soccer) is a recreational sports program for youth and adults with intellectual, emotional, or physical disabilities, offered only through local US Youth Soccer-affiliated soccer clubs. TOPSoccer provides people with disabilities an opportunity to play soccer in a structured environment that is safe, fun, supportive, and inclusive.

Each participant is assigned a volunteer, trained ‘Buddy’ who is typically a little older and neurotypical. This Buddy works with their player individually and makes sure they are safe, engaged, supported, and having fun. The player-Buddy relationship is maintained throughout the course of a season, resulting in strong interpersonal bonds and an establishment of trust and confidence that allows each player to achieve their full potential.

We are reaching out to the community to help us launch our program. There are three areas of need:

1) Players! Do you know of a disabled athlete that would benefit from our program? Pass this email along!

2) Buddies! Do you or someone you know have 4 hours this fall to volunteer your time to make a difference in the life of an athlete?

3) Sponsors! We are committed to keeping the cost low, and provide scholarships to allow access for all. We are accepting donations of any kind, as well as sponsorships from $100-$500. Please spread the word!

TOPS is a community program, not restricted to a single club. We want this program to include ALL players in West Michigan, and we hope you spread the word so that as many players as possible can access the beautiful game!
