The Hidden Dangers Amid Celebration: Who is at Risk of Human Trafficking?

While the world revels in the World Cup, human traffickers are taking advantage of the vulnerable.

Vulnerability during sporting events can look like young people online where traffickers exploit using social media and gaming platforms to gain trust and groom youth before exploiting them. It is estimated that in 2025, 300 million children world-wide were victims of online s*xual exploitation.

Or when commercial s*x demand increases during large events this creates opportunities for traffickers, making this group particularly susceptible to exploitation. Traffickers bring in hundreds of women being trafficked to meet the demand for s*x.

Prevention starts with understanding when children and communities understand that exploitation is not normal.

We need to understand what truly protects children. Children need to know boundaries, safety, trusted adults, and abuse prevention with an age- appropriate information.

How can we protect our children and our communities from exploitation?

WE NEED YOU! 🫵

We are looking to expand our network of partners, especially one who have safe housing and longer-term housing options. In Colorado we only have a few programs who offer either of those services which means that numbers are very limited.

We are looking to connect with programs in states closest to us so that we can build a network of partners and referral agencies to BEST serve our clients. To do this we will need to take a road trip to fully vet and meet with organizations. BUT, this cost money.

We need your help raising funds to expand our network and make sure our survivors are cared for in safe and caring environments. One of our goals has always been safety and this is a key part of this mission!

Each day brings a fresh opportunity. 💛

Every day is filled with new choices and potential for growth if we embrace it. Yesterday is behind us; today offers a chance to renew ourselves. We can choose differently and aim for change—a change that could alter our path. A decision today might influence the rest of your life.

Grant yourself the grace to change and knowledge that you will make a mistake. Acknowledge that perhaps we didn’t make the right choice in the past but today is a fresh start. We don’t always make perfect decisions.

Do we ever truly make perfect choices?

How Can We All Combat Trafficking?

One effective way to combat trafficking is by reducing vulnerability within our community—within our families, systems, and schools.

Individuals who are vulnerable are at a higher risk of falling victim to trafficking. Vulnerability can manifest through various issues such as foster care, domestic violence, s*xual assault, homelessness, and poverty. These vulnerabilities create environments where people are susceptible to exploitation.

We can contribute by funding, volunteering, or establishing initiatives aimed at decreasing vulnerability. These efforts can transform systems, leading to improved outcomes and processes that effectively mitigate vulnerability and foster positive change.

How many people do you think are trapped in human trafficking worldwide?

They estimate about 50 MILLION people are trapped in slavery worldwide. The solution isn't distant or far away as it can feel.

The solution is awareness. It is woven into our everyday lives. Without awareness victims go unnoticed and traffickers move freely around the world. When awareness is paired with tools things shift. Things change. Places become spaces of change and where exploitation is interrupted.

Educate yourself and those around you. Make this world a place where exploitation is NOT acceptable and freedom from trafficking is the common place.

What does a community response to human trafficking look like? ❓

It looks like professionals being educated and knowing how to act.📚

It looks like service provides collaborating and working together.💛

It looks like parents being trained on what human trafficking looks like.🧐

It looks like children and youth being educated and given resources and tools to make safe and smart decisions.🦸‍♀️🦸

It looks like a community standing up and saying, "not in our community!" and taking action.👥

Support Bravestone Project today and educate yourself and your family and friends. This creates a community that says, "not in our community!" Comment NOW to get more information on being educated.
