🖤Celebrating Black History 🖤
Sarah Boone (1832-1904)
At Hems To Help, we honor the contributions of Black women whose inventions made home care more efficient—just like the work we do for older adults.
Today, we’re highlighting Sarah Boone, a trailblazing inventor who revolutionized the way we iron clothes.
In 1892, Boone received a patent for an improved ironing board that was narrow, curved, and collapsible, making it easier to press sleeves and fitted garments. Before her design, ironing boards were simple wooden planks, often placed across chairs or tables. Her invention laid the foundation for modern ironing boards, bringing convenience and efficiency into households everywhere.
Boone’s innovation reminds us that small changes can make a big difference in daily life—just as Hems To Help strives to bring ease and care to the homes of older adults in our community.
Let’s continue to celebrate the brilliance of Black inventors who shaped home care and beyond!
