In support of on October 21, the Long Island Volunteer Center, an affiliate of HandsOn Network, partnered with NYS DOE ACCES-VR on a service learning project for 11 students from Community Mainstreaming Associates, Inc. (https://www.communitymainstreaming.org/) to create Dignity Duffle Bags for veterans served by General Needs Ltd. The Dignity Duffels contained new underwear, socks, t-shirts, towel, washcloth, and toiletries and will be distributed by General Needs to veterans in VA hospitals and transitional housing. The students learned about the essential work being done to support veterans and then participated in a kit building event to create the duffels. Also on hand were 3 members of the LIVC management team, 4 CMA staff, 4 Hofstra University counseling graduate students, and senior staff from ACCES-VR. The Mineola-Garden City Rotary Club donated the hygiene kits and additional donations were secured through Branch Properties and the LIVC Amazon Wish List.
