NCBW celebrates the historic election of Sheriff-Elect Michelle Woodfork in Orleans Parish as a powerful reminder of what happens when communities understand the strength of their vote.

For NCBW, this achievement is especially meaningful because Sheriff-Elect Woodfork is the sister of Mrs. Richelle Woodfork, President of NCBW’s Greater New Orleans Chapter.

Please take a few minutes to read a statement by NCBW President Virginia W. Harris.

On the heels of the Supreme Court’s ruling striking down Louisiana’s congressional map with two majority Black districts, please read the statement by Virginia W. Harris, National President, National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc.

The statement reads in part:
"As an organization committed to advocacy, leadership, and gender equity, NCBW calls on Congress, state leaders, voting rights organizations, and communities across the nation to act with urgency. We must strengthen federal voting rights protections, defend fair maps, educate voters, and mobilize citizens to participate fully in every election."
