Our foster home volunteers welcome the dogs into their homes where they live as members of the family. During the time in foster care, our volunteers determine what kind of forever home will be the right one for each dog. And then we find that home – regardless of how long it takes!

Has separation anxiety and requires a little extra attention and work. Great with people and kids. Gets along with most dogs. Not sure about cats.

Dixie, spayed female, 5yrs old, 38lbs

Dixie was at the Barstow Humane Society when I began fostering her through their foster program. After four months, I was informed that, due to a change in the organization’s insurance, the foster program would be closing. I was given the choice of returning Dixie to the Humane Society or adopting her. Knowing how far she had come in my care and not wanting her to return to the shelter, I decided to adopt her.

Since then, Dixie has continued living in my home, where she has been learning that people can be kind and that a home can be a safe place. She is house-trained, walks on a harness, has learned household manners, and is a quiet, gentle dog. She does well with other dogs and continues to build confidence at her own pace.

She is now house-trained, crate-trained, obedient, and very good on a leash. She does well with other dogs, both large and small, and is gentle and submissive. She enjoys car rides and has started discovering the simple pleasures of living in a home, including relaxing on the couch and receiving affection.

Dixie is still shy around unfamiliar people, and she needs time to build trust. However, once she feels comfortable and safe, her sweet and affectionate personality begins to shine.

However, her fear of men has recently increased, particularly toward my husband, both inside and outside the home. I believe Dixie would benefit from the support of a rescue experienced in working with fearful dogs and helping them continue their rehabilitation.

Her ideal home would be with a patient, understanding family willing to give her time to adjust. A quiet environment and a securely fenced yard would be ideal.

This is an incredibly difficult situation for me because I truly love Dixie. I adopted her because I wanted to give her the opportunity to continue making progress outside the shelter. My goal is to find the best possible path forward for her well-being, with the right experience, patience, and support.

Draco, neutered male, 2yrs old, 40lbs

We have owned Draco since he was born on October 12, 2024. We were there for the delivery! His mom was found on the side of the road and we didn’t know she was pregnant. We found out that Draco’s mom was dumped because the breeder couldn’t sell her. We did do DNA to confirm, Draco’s mom is 100% ACD, so we know that Draco is also purebred, as unfortunately, we learned that Draco and his mom share the same dad.

We are looking to find Draco the perfect home- we live on a farm and with a loud/active household. Draco has shown us that he would rather live in a quieter, slower-paced environment. I would recommend a family without children or older than 13. We do have young children at home, but I feel it would be best for Draco to have less stimulation. He does not like loud noises or sudden movements. So living on a farm with young children is not his favorite place to be.

Draco does show co-dependency with our other dogs, so he would probably be suited best with 1 other dog for company. He has never known life without a companion. Draco is not the alpha dog but does show fearful tendencies towards strangers and other dogs outside of our household. Once he trusts you, he will be your Velcro dog. He is 2yr, UTD on vaccines, neutered, crate trained, and knows basic commands. (Sit, lay down, stay, come) Draco will occasionally have a p*e accident in the house if he drinks a lot of water after playing, but otherwise is house-broken.

We are located in Monroeville, NJ. Meeting him first is a must. We want to find the perfect match. We are happy to meet you part of the way if within a reasonable distance. We are asking a Small re-homing fee. We are also happy to stay in contact with his future family to answer any questions for you to help Draco transition in your home and family. Please allow him the time to transition into your family, we are the only home he has ever know.

Looking for a new best friend? A ride or die dog? Jax will be your huckleberry! Or should I say " hucklebuckle " because he'll stick to your side like those brown burrs you pick up walking in the woods. This is a typical Cattle Dog trait.

Jax is a sweet Cattle dog mix who is going to be a large dog. He is lean and lanky like a new born fawn. He was fostering with his littermate and since his brother has moved on Jax has become the perfect house guest. He can definitely be a goofball and will keep you entertained with his antics.
Jax was quick to sound the alarm about Aliens in the yard (herding balls that thawed out from the snow banks) He bravely risked life and limb to sneak up and inspect the foreign objects, protecting me from harm. 🤣 Jax found them to be no threat and actually really fun to play with.
Oh and those ears! They're trying to stand up but that's just added charm.
Jax sleeps on a dog bed beside me throughout the day, if I move Jax is right beside me.
No resource guarding at all and gets along with my resident dog. Jax sleeps all night in his crate and will sit patiently and wait for his food to be placed on the floor.
Jax keeps his crate very tidy. Jax is on the shy side but gains more confidence daily. Jax is a submissive pup and wants to play with everyone, dogs and humans though it takes a bit to warm up to new people but after he gets to know you, you will be greeted with his whole body wiggles. Jax knows some basic commands and is very treat motivated to learn more.

Jax would probably be ok with a kitty if introduced slowly. Jax was curious about little humans (grandsons) and has grown fond of them, seeking affection and some play time.

Jax needs a confident human(s) that can help him through some insecurities. Someone who is home more than not. Someone who is familiar with the breed and willing to reach out to a reward based trainer if needed. A quiet home with a yard and maybe a confident doggie sibling would be ideal for Jax.

She would benefit by slow intros to other pups. Reebie is fine with laid back dogs.
Reebie is very playful so older children would be a good match for her.
Reebie was a very good girl at her vet check up! She even had a pawdicure without any drama!
Reebie is a very smart pup, she picks up routines quickly… dog training classes would be great for her!
She enjoys meeting new humans, especially those with snacks!
Reebie is fine with vet visits!
She is not a fan of kitty cats.

Hi there, I’m Ash! (And I’m looking for my next big adventure!)

My family loves me very much, but since my favorite human left for college, the house has gotten a bit too quiet and my family doesn’t have the time to keep up with my big energy. I’m looking for an active home where I can run, play, and get all the attention I deserve!

A few fun facts about me:

I’m a helper: I live with a giant Husky/Malamute brother, and I take my job of "herding" him very seriously (he’s super cool about it and just lets me do my thing).

I’m cat-approved: I live with two cats. One lets me sniff him while he eats, and the other watches me from a safe distance. I respect their space!

I love kids: I am great with children, but because I’m a bit of a hyper goofball, I’d do best with older kids instead of tiny infants.

I’m a cuddle bug: If you are petting me, I am glued to your side. I also chase my tail in circles when I'm happy!

I have great manners outside: I do amazing off-leash on our property and stick right by my humans. I’m also super smart and listen perfectly to remote training cues (like a collar tone or vibration).

My perfect match:

Right now, I'm spending a lot of time in my crate because my family is so busy, and to be honest, it makes me lonely and bored. Because of that, I’ve had a few potty accidents lately and accidentally chewed a couch cushion. But when I get to free-range and get my energy out, I'm a very good girl!

I would thrive with someone who has a yard, loves to go on walks, or wants a smart, loyal companion to keep them active.

Brooklyn’s life before now is a mystery, but this mature lady is ready to make up for lost time and live her best life! Brooklyn is a full-size cattle dog, but she doesn’t throw her weight around, preferring to get to know the critters around her before really diving in.

And in her foster home, Brooklyn is surrounded by a lot of critters… life on a farm has come with many new introductions: dogs, cats, sheep, goats, and a bunny!

Brooklyn has taken it all in stride, and she listens to her foster mom when advised that something might not be the best choice. For example, while she sometimes thinks that cats are worthy of a taste test, she does great when supervised. Her dog brothers and sisters play rough, and so
Brooklyn has needed some time to check them out, but she has started to join in on the fun!

Compared to other cattle dogs, though, Brooklyn is low energy. She loves to roll around in the morning and go for walks around the farm, but she’s also happy to plop down in the sun for a nice afternoon nap.

Brooklyn is spayed and up to date on her vaccines and flea and tick medicine. She is potty trained and happily sleeps through the night in a crate or dog bed or on the couch (she’d probably also enjoy a human bed, but it’s currently quite full!).

When meeting people, Brooklyn can be a bit shy and nervous,
which she shows by licking you. She is also very food motivated (but not at all aggressive), which means that once she feels confident, she’ll likely be easy to train. Although timid at first and not afraid to set boundaries with other nosy dogs, Brooklyn would probably like a home with another dog or two (as long
as they’re not too rough!) and lots of time to be outside in the sun or to go on walks. As far as cattle dogs go, she’s a great, low-key lady who still has lots of years, licks, and cuddles to give!
