Gaithersburg HELP, Inc. Gaithersburg HELP evolved from a vision that started in 1968. We also receive substantial support from local businesses and civic organizations.

Since 1968, the mission of Gaithersburg HELP is to provide individuals and families in the Gaithersburg area with basic needs assistance to resources that are available, and to provide information and referrals to other organizations and agencies. The faith community of Gaithersburg recognized that emergencies can happen on a moment's notice, yet government assistance often takes time. To meet the

immediate needs of families affected by financial challenges, local churches and synagogues joined together to form Gaithersburg HELP in an effort to provide short-term assistance in a coordinated fashion. Today, our network is comprised of more than 25 member congregations and 160 volunteers working together to help those in need within the greater Gaithersburg area. A team of committed translators help us serve our diverse community, especially Spanish-speaking clients. Gaithersburg HELP is governed by the leadership of a Board of Directors. The Board is comprised of an Executive Committee and delegates from each of our member congregations; bi-monthly meetings are open to the public. For over 40 years, Gaithersburg HELP has supported local residents in need by providing food, transportation, and other services. Here's a snapshot of how we made a difference last year. Gaithersburg HELP provided assistance for more than 6,150 situations:

3,837 food packages, each containing a 3-5 day food supply
1,091 diaper/formula packages
721 rides to medical and social services appointments
789 essential prescription medications funded

Do you need food for your family?

Gaithersburg HELP provides food assistance to residents in the Gaithersburg and Montgomery Village area. If you need help, call 301-216-2510 #1 and leave a message. A volunteer will call you back.

The food pantry is available by appointment only, and you can often get a reservation to pick up food within 24 hours.

Eligible households may receive a 3–5 day supply of food. Dietary and special requests are honored when possible.

Eligible Maryland residents age 60+ may qualify for a $35 Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program benefit to purchase fresh fruits, vegetables, and honey at participating farmers markets and farm stands.

Montgomery County is launching an extreme heat outreach campaign for Summer 2026 to help residents, workers, and employers recognize the signs of heat illness and stay safe.

Printed extreme heat safety flyers are available for pickup from EOB on a first-come, first-served basis, with a limit of 500 copies per organization. These are great for food distributions and community outreach.

A big thank you to Capital Area Food Bank for providing the monthly produce hub that helps keep fresh food moving into our community.
