The Department of Education’s decision to rescind key Title IX protections marks a dangerous shift away from protecting students and toward weakening civil rights enforcement.
As Meghan Kissell highlights, this move abandons accountability and leaves transgender and nonbinary students without critical protections.
AAUW will continue to stand up for students’ rights and dignity.

Wage gaps vary widely for women in Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) communities — and far worse for some women. AANHPI women are overrepresented in low-wage service jobs, with Native Hawaiian women facing some of the widest pay gaps. These disparities are often hidden when data is combined and not separated by race and ethnic groups, making inequities harder to see — and harder to address. This Equal Pay Day, look beyond the average and demand solutions that reflect the full picture.

This Women’s History Month, we spotlight researchers advancing equity in spaces where policy and representation matter deeply.
Today we recognize Anna Posbergh, 2021–22 American Fellow, whose work examines the governance and representation of women athletes and the policies shaping the women’s category in sport.

Student loan debt is not just a number — it represents opportunity, stability, and futures.

AAUW strongly condemns the Department of Education’s plan to transfer defaulted student loans to the Treasury, a move that prioritizes debt collection over borrower support and threatens women’s economic security.

Women — especially women of color — already carry the greatest burden of student debt. Policies like this will only deepen those inequities.

Did you know that not every worker in Maryland is eligible for paid sick leave?

If someone works for a company with 15 or fewer workers, they do not get paid sick leave. This is a direct impact on the economic security of the family!
