🎣 A Reel-y Great Day at the Junior Fishing Derby! 🐟

More than 60 young anglers and their families gathered at Izaak Walton League’s Loudoun County Chapter on Sunday, October 25, for the 12th Annual Junior Fishing Derby! 🎉

Open to the public, this annual event brought a pond full of eager anglers ready to cast a line and reel in a catch. While anglers 15 and younger competed for prizes, older siblings were encouraged to join in the fun, too!

🐟 The results are in!
- 🎣 38 fish caught — 11 bass and 27 bluegills!
- 🏆 The top three winners were determined by the combined weight of their five heaviest fish.
- 🎁 Each winner received a certificate and a rod and reel, with the first-place winner also taking home a trophy.

One of the day's highlights? Our youngest successful angler was just 5 years old and reeled in a 13.9-ounce bass alongside his father. What a catch! 👏

A big thank-you to everyone who came out to make this year's derby a success. We love seeing young anglers and their families enjoying the outdoors and making memories together! 💚

🐾 The Endangered Species Act Is in Danger. What Does That Mean for Wildlife?

In this article, Lisa Ballard explores why the Endangered Species Act matters, how habitat loss affects wildlife, and why protecting biodiversity is essential to healthy ecosystems and our future.

🌊 When a Legislative Loss Becomes a Conservation Win

Not every bill becomes law, but that doesn’t mean progress stops! 💧

In Maryland, years of advocacy around road salt pollution have helped drive changes in training, reporting requirements, and salt management practices—even when proposed legislation didn’t pass.

This blog posts shares how grassroots advocacy, community connections, and persistence can lead to meaningful conservation progress.

Whether a bill succeeds or fails to pass, it often isn’t the final chapter. Grassroots energy can reshape agency actions and public awareness
