Lakelands is a 340-acre Traditional Neighborhood Development (TND) in Gaithersburg, Maryland. With 1,410 residential units, Lakelands began in 1998 and has been carefully designed and planned by the world-renowned team of Duany Plater-Zyberk and Company to recreate the atmosphere of a small town, Lakelands provides a living environment similar to its adjoining community, Kentlands, which was also

designed by DPZ Architects. Streets are narrow with ample sidewalks and are organized in a grid pattern to eliminate isolated cul-de-sacs. Single-family homes and town homes are built on smaller lots to promote neighborliness, safety, and security, as well as minimize property taxes and upkeep. Schools, stores and numerous parks are within walking distance to further encourage interaction among neighbors and reduce reliance on automobiles. There are many activities held throughout the year for residents to participate in, which reinforces the sense of neighborhood and community. With so many amenities literally minutes away, Lakelands is ideal for a variety of lifestyles, whether it be singles, growing families, or empty nesters. Parks are located throughout the community, with Lakelands Park being maintained by the City of Gaithersburg. It offers lighted fields for baseball, softball, soccer, and other team sports, as well as a picnic pavilion, and a fully handicapped-accessible play area for young children, with other tot lots located throughout the community. In addition, residents can enjoy running and bike paths, a regular farmers market, summer time outdoor musical events, a community pool, and our clubhouse, which features a fully equipped exercise equipment and weight room. With an active homeowners’ association intent on maintaining these high quality-of-life amenities, Lakelands residents are assured that the community will maintain its appeal, and that their property values stay as high as possible.

Council in the Communities meetings offer an opportunity for residents, community leaders, and property managers to engage directly with the Mayor and City Council, as well as staff from key City departments. Attendees will hear brief updates on City services, current initiatives, and neighborhood-related topics, followed by time for questions and open discussion.

Questions or concerns that residents would like addressed during the meeting may be submitted in advance to [email protected] by Friday, June 5 at noon. Sharing these items ahead of time helps ensure staff can prepare thorough responses.

Community members are encouraged to share the flyer and meeting details within their neighborhoods. Postcard notifications have been mailed to all addresses within the listed communities. The City looks forward to a productive conversation and hopes to see strong participation.
