As an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful, KACB believes that each of us holds an obligation to preserve and protect our environment. Through our everyday choices and actions we collectively have a huge impact on our world. It's really a simple concept, but one with far reaching effects.

KACB is proud to share that our organization and Executive Director, Carlos Gonzalez have recently been recognized as honored listees in Marquis 2026 Who’s Who in America. This national publication recognizes individuals and the organizations they represent for their meaningful contributions and important work within their communities.

We are deeply honored by this recognition and look forward to sharing more information about this wonderful achievement in the coming weeks.

Our sincere thanks go to those who nominated KACB and Carlos for this recognition as well as to all of our partners, volunteers and community members who make our work possible. Together, we are carrying out the much needed work of protecting and caring for our environment.

This past weekend, KACB proudly welcomed a new Adopt-A-Road sponsor with a training session and celebratory ribbon cutting ceremony, this time in Newberry!

Staff and friends of Sun Country Sports Center joined our Director for their very first cleanup along their newly adopted roadway. In just two hours, the team collected more than 152 pounds of litter, about the weight of a heavy armchair making an immediate and visible impact on their stretch of roadway. Along the way, volunteers were greeted with waves, smiles and thank you honks as they spent their morning giving back to the community.

We are incredibly grateful to Sun Country Sports Center for their commitment to keeping our community clean, beautiful and cared for. Thank you for supporting KACB and for helping make a difference through your Adopt-A-Road commitment. We’re so excited to have you as part of the KACB family!

Yesterday, Keep Alachua County Beautiful teamed up with the University of Florida’s Brown Center for Leadership and Service to tackle some much needed street cleanups across Gainesville!

In the morning, participants in the LeadUF program rolled up their sleeves to collect litter along NE 8th Avenue, from Waldo Road all the way to NE 25th Street as well as at Clarence Kelly Playground. Later that day, another group took on SE 16th Avenue, cleaning from Williston Road to approximately Main Street.

Together, these incredible volunteers removed 241 pounds of litter from our community and diverted 5.5 pounds of recyclables!

A huge thank you to all of our dedicated volunteers for bringing their energy and passion to the effort. Your hard work is helping make Gainesville cleaner, greener, and even more beautiful!

A huge thank you to Feathr for partnering with Keep Alachua County Beautiful for a Company Community Service Cleanup within a portion of Hogtown Creek in Gainesville today!

Feathr employees dedicated their morning to helping protect one of our community's cherished waterways within Alfred A. Ring Park. Their hard work and enthusiasm made a real difference, with the team removing an incredible 309 pounds of litter and debris from the creek, the equivalent weight of a baby elephant!

Every piece of litter removed helps restore and protect the environment that local wildlife depends on while preserving cleaner, healthier waterways for our community to enjoy. It's amazing what can be accomplished when businesses and volunteers come together with a shared commitment to environmental stewardship.

We are incredibly grateful for Feathr's dedication to giving back, supporting our mission and helping create a cleaner, greener Alachua County.

This past Saturday, KACB proudly welcomed another new Adopt-A-Road sponsor with a training session and celebratory ribbon cutting ceremony in Gainesville!

Members of Blackadder Brewing Company joined our Executive Director for their very first cleanup along their newly adopted roadway. Despite heavy rain cutting the cleanup short after just one hour, the team collected more than 53 pounds of litter about the weight of an adult Labrador, making an immediate and visible impact on their stretch of roadway in Northwest Gainesville.

Not only does KACB provide plants, supplies, materials and volunteer support to help community gardens in Alachua county get started but we also assist with the signage that helps keep them organized and thriving for years to come.

We were delighted to partner with the Town of Micanopy and a local sign shop to provide signage that will support the garden's ongoing success.

The City of Gainesville also offers an Adopt-A-Street program, which gives businesses, nonprofits and residents the opportunity to help keep local roadways clean.

KACB recently supported one of the program's participating groups during a cleanup over the weekend. In just one hour, members of the Jewish Council of North Central Florida collected more than 20 pounds of litter and half a pound of recyclables,making a meaningful impact on their adopted roadway.

If you're looking for volunteer opportunities and KACB doesn't currently have a road cleanup that fits your schedule or location, the City's Adopt-A-Street program is a great alternative. With many streets available for adoption throughout Gainesville, you can help care for an area that's important to you.

If you live elsewhere in Alachua County and your municipality does not offer a similar roadway adoption program, KACB may have county roads available for adoption. It's another great way to make a lasting impact by helping keep our community clean and beautiful.

Did you know that KACB also helps keep Downtown Gainesville clean?

In this busy urban district, surrounding government offices, local businesses and public spaces our staff and volunteers remove approximately 96,000 pieces of litter each year, preventing nearly 4,800 pounds of waste from polluting our community.

Spending time outdoors is one of the best ways to improve both physical and mental well being but those benefits are diminished when our sidewalks and streets are littered with plastic and other waste. Despite the availability of trash receptacles throughout downtown, littering continues to be a problem, often due to careless behavior. Additional litter generated by visitors and heavy pedestrian traffic further contributes to an environment that is both unsightly and unsanitary creating potential health and environmental concerns.

Reducing litter requires a community wide commitment. Supporting policies that encourage reusable, non plastic alternatives, strengthening public education efforts and enforcing existing litter laws are all important steps toward keeping our streets clean. Lasting change won't happen overnight, it takes the collective efforts of community members, businesses, visitors and organizations working together.

In the meantime, Keep Alachua County Beautiful remains committed to doing its part by leading cleanup efforts, educating the public and inspiring others to take pride in keeping our community healthy and beautiful for everyone!

After hearing from a concerned resident about litter and illegal dumping at the western trailhead of the Archer–Braid Trail in Archer, KACB staff worked with volunteers to help restore this well used community space this past weekend.

In just a couple of hours, volunteers from Bridge City Community Church alongside a KACB staff member removed two tires, a shopping cart, an 84-inch television, multiple bags of litter and other miscellaneous debris from the site. In total approximately 449 pounds of waste were removed from this popular trail connecting Archer and Gainesville. As hikers and cyclists passed by during the cleanup, many stopped to thank the volunteers for their efforts.

A special thank you to the community member who reported the illegal dumping, allowing it to be addressed quickly. We are also incredibly grateful to Bridge City Community Church and all of our supporters who helped make this cleanup possible.

When our community works together, we can protect the places we all enjoy and make a lasting difference!
