Get ready High Springs residents!

We’re officially almost one month away from our fall Tire Roundup and Bulk Waste Collection!

Keep Alachua County Beautiful is excited to announce the return of our Tire Roundup along with an additional Bulk Waste Collection this fall.

Join us for a convenient Drive Through Tire Roundup and Bulk Waste Disposal Event, giving High Springs residents the opportunity to dispose of unwanted tires and large bulk items free of charge.

Proper disposal helps keep our community clean and protects our environment. Discarded tires and bulk waste can contribute to illegal dumping, collect standing water that creates mosquito breeding habitats and contribute to pollution and harmful substances leaching into the soil.

A special thank you to Alachua County Solid Waste and Resource Recovery, Waste Pro, the City of High Springs and Duke Energy for helping make this event possible!

Residents can drive through and drop off rimless tires from conventional road vehicles, such as cars and trucks as well as eligible bulk waste items.

TIRE & BULK WASTE RULES
- Up to 8 tires per person
- Tires must be removed from rims
- Commercial vehicle tires will not be accepted
- Tires from businesses will not be accepted
- Construction and demolition debris will not be accepted, including:
- Concrete
- Brick
- Wood or lumber
- Metals
- Drywall or plaster
- Roofing materials
- Finishing elements

Help us keep High Springs clean and prevent unwanted waste from becoming an environmental problem. We look forward to seeing you there!

Yesterday, KACB had five separate volunteer groups out across Gainesville, helping beautify different areas of our community in celebration of National Cleanup Day, an initiative that began in 2017.

Together, our volunteers removed more than 370 pounds of litter from public spaces throughout the city. We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who dedicated their time and energy to helping keep our communities clean and beautiful.

Did you know that as part of KACB’s efforts to support community gardens throughout Alachua County, we can help provide organic materials such as locally produced compost?

Not long ago, we coordinated another delivery of this rich, nutrient filled material to the Reserve Park Community Garden in Gainesville. The compost is made locally by Gaston Mulch and Soil using food scraps collected right here in our community by O-Town Compost.

We’re proud to help complete the circle, connecting residents, local businesses, community gardens and organic materials to keep valuable resources working for our community instead of going to waste.

Earlier this morning, two community members who wanted to lend a hand and help clean up somewhere in town connected with our Executive Director to tackle a portion of NE 15th St. in Gainesville.

These individuals reached out to us with both the desire and availability to volunteer and we’re grateful we were able to put together an opportunity that worked well for everyone. It was a great way to beat the heat, spend some time outside and connect with a volunteer who has previously supported a similar nonprofit organization up north.

Together, they collected more than 327 pounds of material, including 255 pounds of litter, that’s about the same weight as a full grown gorilla!

We truly appreciate community members like these who are proactive, see a need and take the initiative to help further our mission. We couldn’t do this work without the incredible dedication of our volunteers.

A huge thank you to these two volunteers for showing up and making a difference and to our partners who help make opportunities like this possible.

This national publication recognizes individuals and the organizations they represent for their meaningful contributions and important work within their communities.

We are deeply honored by this recognition and look forward to sharing more information about this wonderful achievement in the coming weeks.

This past weekend, KACB proudly welcomed a new Adopt-A-Road sponsor with a training session and celebratory ribbon cutting ceremony, this time in Newberry!

Staff and friends of Sun Country Sports Center joined our Director for their very first cleanup along their newly adopted roadway. In just two hours, the team collected more than 152 pounds of litter, about the weight of a heavy armchair making an immediate and visible impact on their stretch of roadway. Along the way, volunteers were greeted with waves, smiles and thank you honks as they spent their morning giving back to the community.

We are incredibly grateful to Sun Country Sports Center for their commitment to keeping our community clean, beautiful and cared for. Thank you for supporting KACB and for helping make a difference through your Adopt-A-Road commitment. We’re so excited to have you as part of the KACB family!

Yesterday, Keep Alachua County Beautiful teamed up with the University of Florida’s Brown Center for Leadership and Service to tackle some much needed street cleanups across Gainesville!

In the morning, participants in the LeadUF program rolled up their sleeves to collect litter along NE 8th Avenue, from Waldo Road all the way to NE 25th Street as well as at Clarence Kelly Playground. Later that day, another group took on SE 16th Avenue, cleaning from Williston Road to approximately Main Street.

Together, these incredible volunteers removed 241 pounds of litter from our community and diverted 5.5 pounds of recyclables!

A huge thank you to all of our dedicated volunteers for bringing their energy and passion to the effort. Your hard work is helping make Gainesville cleaner, greener, and even more beautiful!
