Meet the future of music in Gainesville. 🌟

Through our Mentor Program, professional Gainesville Orchestra musicians go directly into local elementary schools to provide free, hands-on violin instruction to 4th and 5th graders, many of whom would otherwise have no access to private music education.

Since launching in 2023, the program has grown to serve 150 students across two Gainesville schools. These kids receive free instrument loans, weekly lessons, and even get to perform on stage at our annual Children's Concert alongside professional musicians.

It's more than music. It's confidence, discipline, and opportunity, delivered by the only professional orchestra in Alachua County. 🎶
We are so proud of every single one of these students. 👏

The wait is almost over, Gainesville. On October 30th, we kick off the 2026-2027 season with Revolution, Beethoven's powerful Eroica paired with Rautavaara's hauntingly beautiful Cantus Arcticus, Concerto for Birds and Orchestra.

🎺 Did You Know?

The French horn has more tubing than almost any other instrument in the orchestra. If you uncoiled it, it would stretch over 12 feet long. 🤯

And yet somehow, players control all of that with just their lips, breath, and one hand tucked inside the bell. The technique takes years to master, which makes what you hear in the concert hall even more impressive.

Next time you're in the audience, keep an ear out for the horns. Once you start noticing them, you can't stop. 🎶

The Gainesville Orchestra is celebrating a major milestone this season — 25 years with Evans Haile as Music Director. 🎉
From beloved classics to bold, unexpected programming, Maestro Haile has shaped this orchestra into something truly special for Gainesville. We are so grateful for his vision, his artistry, and everything he brings to the podium night after night.

A professional violin is made of over 70 individual pieces of wood — yet weighs less than a pound. 🤯

Every curve, joint, and grain of wood affects the sound it produces, which is why no two violins sound exactly alike. The craftsmanship behind each instrument is just as much an art form as the music played on it.

Next time you're in the audience, you're not just hearing a musician — you're hearing centuries of woodworking tradition too. 🎶

🎺 Meet Margaret Dixon!

Margaret has been bringing her horn magic to the Gainesville Orchestra since 2010, and that's just one chapter of an incredible story. 🌍

From performing on three continents alongside artists like Celtic Woman and Cirque du Soleil, to teaching 30+ students, launching a conservatory that gave out $50K in scholarships, and opening her own studio space Music with Margaret in 2024… she does it all.
Oh, and she was named to Ocala Magazine's 40 Under 40 in 2024!

When the horn goes in the case, you'll find her traveling, lifting weights, watching disaster movies, and fueling it all with dark chocolate and strong coffee. ☕🍫
