The Guardian is a containerized aerial fire fighting system (CAFFS) that enables any rear-loading cargo aircraft to join the fight against wildfires. Each Guardian box is armed with a super-duty liner that can hold up to 1000 liters of any firefighting payload. Because that payload never comes in contact with the aircraft, the Guardian eliminates the need for anticorrosive chemicals.

In 2024, Peru—who first adopted the Guardian system in 2019—stepped in to help Colombia by donating a portion of their Guardian stock to the country. Within the week, the Colombian Air Force received the Guardians from the Peruvian Air Force and used them to fight live fires. Later in the year, Peru was again able to provide Guardian CAFFS in emergency situations, this time to Bolivia and Ecuador. Wildfires can cross borders—but so can the Guardian.

Romania was an early adopter of the Guardian System, first testing it for use in 2014. Over the years, Romania has not only used the Guardian on their own soil, but they’ve also been able to provide aid in the form of Guardians to several other European nations in times of crisis. Romania’s fleet of C-27J Spartans—equipped with the Guardian System—has fought wildfires domestically and regionally.
