Every Neighborhood Partnership

Every Neighborhood Partnership MISSION: Activate. Equip. Mobilize. Transform. September of 2002, a group of city leaders connected a few churches with elementary schools in central Fresno.

The primary purpose was to provide an outlet where the students at these schools could interact with positive role models during the weekend. It also provided an opportunity for volunteers from these churches to build relationships with the students. As volunteers spent more time in these communities they became aware of two specific issues. First, the test scores of the students were consistently

in the bottom end of all the elementary schools in Fresno Unified. Second, the percentage of the families living at or below the poverty line was higher than most communities in the city. What started out as a small sports program evolved into a ministry that addressed these issues, including literacy, mentoring and community outreach events. Volunteers from the church became more connected to the neighborhood while discovering many opportunities to be involved in the lives of the community. Other churches began asking about these partnerships and how they might do something similar. Every Neighborhood Partnership (ENP) was formed in January 2008 with a desire to see ministries like these replicated throughout the city.

About 100 high school students have been trained as literacy mentors this year!

We recently celebrated their achievement with a banquet at Pardini’s, recognizing the time, effort, and heart they've invested in supporting younger students in their reading and literacy growth.

These students are part of the ROP Education Pathway, with many aspiring to become teachers or pursue careers working with children—already stepping into leadership roles and making a real impact in their communities.

We are so proud of all they've accomplished, and we're excited to continue this work again next year!

The Baile-ton Dance was so fun!

Dance leaders from all six of our sites came together for a two-hour danceathon filled with energy, connection, and celebration.

It was amazing to see leaders from across our programs unite, share space, and build community through movement and joy.

Our Spanish-speaking community leaders enjoyed a retreat together in Tollhouse!

This time away gave them space to connect, reflect, and be encouraged as they continue serving and supporting families in our community.

We are so grateful for these incredible leaders and the heart, dedication, and care they bring to everything they do.

Justin Lerma, ENP's Program Director, shared," This is more than a literacy program this is a movement. Through ENP’s literacy mentoring, 600+ students have been directly supported, while families and communities are being connected to vital resources through our school sites and community partners. Because of the collaboration between mentors, staff, and local vendors, the impact goes beyond reading, it’s building confidence, strengthening families, and transforming communities.

Every number tells a story. And we’re just getting started."

Because of our amazing volunteers, we were able to help hundreds of children strengthen their literacy skills this year—building confidence, improving reading ability, and fostering a lifelong love of learning.

We are so grateful for everyone who made this possible and helped create such meaningful growth in our students.

Thank you Radiant Valley Interpreting for helping us make our banquet more accessible by providing translation support.

Because of your partnership, we are also able to offer classes and trainings in Spanish, opening the door for more members of our community to fully participate, learn, and grow alongside us.

Recently, we hosted a Walk Audit in the Columbia neighborhood. Residents came together to walk their own streets, share their experiences, and point out areas where they hope to see change; safer sidewalks, improved lighting, and better traffic signals.

As neighbors walked and talked, local leaders listened. The goal was simple: understand the community from the perspective of the people who live there every day.

The Walk Audit is just the beginning. It is followed by a Community Land Use Academy, where residents are equipped with practical tools and knowledge to help turn their feedback into action and bring lasting improvements to their neighborhood.

A participant shared, "What I liked was seeing what is working well and also identifying what needs improvement in the area. I would like this to happen again and to invite district and city representatives so they can see how they can help us make the walk to school safer, cleaner, and more beautiful."
