We exist to offer excellent, accessible, and affordable mental and emotional healthcare services.

The vision of The Refuge Center is to make sure that every individual and family had the opportunity to seek therapeutic resources, regardless of income level. There are few opportunities for affordable counseling in the area, as many local therapists charge $90-$150 per session. The Refuge Center offers therapy to those who can not afford these fees and bases their fees on a sliding-scale based on income that ranges from $25-$125.

Yesterday, our CEO and Co-Founder, Amy Alexander, had the honor of attending and speaking at the Center for Nonprofit Excellence’s 2026 Salute to Excellence Awards.

As last year’s CEO of the Year recipient, Amy had the special privilege of presenting this year’s award to Dr. Laura Ferguson Mimms of TN Higher Education Initiative !

This annual celebration recognizes the extraordinary nonprofit leaders and organizations whose dedication to service continues to strengthen our communities.

Congratulations to Dr. Laura and all of this year’s honorees! We are grateful to be part of a community of leaders committed to serving others and creating lasting change.

We’re hiring a Client Access Supervisor!

Every person who reaches out to The Refuge Center deserves a clear, warm path to care. The Client Access Supervisor leads the team that makes that happen, overseeing our Call Specialists and Care Specialists and owning the journey from someone’s first call to their first counseling appointment, with the goal of getting every client there within two to three weeks.

We’re looking for an experienced operations leader who is just as comfortable digging into a report as sitting with a team member after a hard call. Someone direct and kind, steady under pressure, and committed to the belief that no one should be turned away from care because of their income.

Today we celebrated the retirement of Goode, Director of the Intern Program, as she transitions out of her role as Staff Therapist/Director of the Intern Program! 🤎

She has served so faithfully at Refuge leading our intern program for 7 years and has been at Refuge for 11. During her tenure, she trained and supervised over 300 Master’s Level Interns from almost 19 different universities equipping them with the tools, knowledge, and experience to become exceptional and empathetic therapists.

Thank you Tina for being an integral piece in making Refuge what it is today. We may be saying “goodbye” to her as a full-time staff member, but we are so excited to be saying “Hello!” as she assumes a new part-time position, a first at Refuge as Senior Clinical Consultant. She will continue with a select number of clinical hours and provide support to our entire team through this new position.

We’re hiring a Care Specialist! 💛

When someone reaches out to The Refuge Center, the Care Specialist helps them get to a therapist. Through 30-minute virtual sessions, this role guides new clients through intake and our sliding scale, and makes sure each person is pointed toward the care that fits their needs, with the goal of having every client in their first appointment within two to three weeks.

We’re looking for someone who brings both warmth and efficiency, is comfortable with candid conversations about cost and care, and ideally has some mental health training. If you want your work to be the reason someone gets help, we’d love to hear from you.
