On June 14, 1777, the Second Continental Congress made it official: thirteen stars and thirteen stripes would represent our new nation.

Nearly 250 years later, the Stars and Stripes still fly as one of the most recognized symbols of freedom in the world. For DAR, the flag is more than a symbol. It is a living connection to the patriots who fought for the ideals it represents and a reminder of the values we carry forward every day.

Through flag ceremonies, educational programs, and community events, DAR chapters nationwide work to ensure that the history and meaning behind our flag is never forgotten. On Flag Day and every day, we are proud to honor it.

🇺🇸 With Heartfelt Gratitude to National Society Daughters of the American Revolution 🇺🇸

As we unveil our newest exhibit, "Women of Valor: 250 Years of Women Serving Our Nation," we extend our deepest thanks to the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) for their partnership and generous support in making this exhibit possible.

As America commemorates its 250th anniversary, this exhibit shines a light on the remarkable women whose service, sacrifice, leadership, and courage helped build, defend, and preserve our Nation across more than 250 years. Their stories remind us that women have been serving our country since before there was a United States and continue to serve with distinction today.

Through DAR’s commitment to preserving and sharing American history, thousands of visitors will have the opportunity to discover the inspiring stories of these women, learn from their experiences, and better understand the vital role they played in shaping our Nation.

We are honored to partner with an organization that shares our dedication to honoring those who came before us and ensuring their legacy endures for future generations.

Thank you, DAR, for helping us tell these important stories and for ensuring that the women who served our Nation receive the recognition they so richly deserve.

✨ Together, we are preserving history, honoring her service, and inspiring the generations to come.

Happy Teacher Appreciation Week! Teachers are the keepers of our future, and the champions of the curious minds who will carry our nation's story forward. This week, we celebrate every educator who inspires a love of history, service, and community in their students.

DAR has long believed that education is one of the most powerful ways to honor our founding legacy. Through scholarships, essay contests, and American history education programs, DAR members across the country work hand in hand with teachers and students to strengthen and support education in classrooms every day.

To every teacher out there, thank you. What you do matters more than words can say.

We are wrapping up , but for DAR members, every month is an opportunity volunteer. Already in 2026, DAR members have contributed more than 800,000 volunteer hours. We are proud that DAR is a founding partner of America Gives, an initiative of the America250 Commission inviting all Americans to honor the Semiquincentennial by making 2026 a record-setting Year of Service.

Thank you to our members for strengthening communities through meaningful outreach in historic preservation, education, and patriotism. Tell us how you are volunteering on a local level to honor America’s 250th Birthday.

Before there was a nation, there was a revolution. 🇺🇸

Did you know that several signers of the Declaration of Independence as well as other Revolutionary War Patriots had Irish roots? Irish Americans played important roles in the fight for independence, and their contributions remain part of the history DAR members research and preserve today.

Irish-born signers James Smith, Matthew Thornton, and George Taylor each journeyed to America and became signers of the Declaration—contributing to the founding of a new nation.

Other notable Irish American Patriots include Henry Knox, who left his Boston bookshop to join the Patriot militia, and Hercules Mulligan, who gathered vital intelligence as a spy in British-occupied New York. Mulligan’s impact is still remembered today with a newly established overseas DAR chapter in Dublin named in his honor.

Also among them was the President General’s own Patriot ancestor, Lilly McIlhaney Bowen, an Irish-born woman who supported the cause by loaning funds and providing food and supplies to the Continental Army. She is just one of nearly 1,300 documented female Patriot ancestors connected to DAR members—with many more stories still waiting to be uncovered.
