NeighborLink Fort Wayne

NeighborLink Fort Wayne NL encourages practical neighbor-to-neighbor expressions of God's love through volunteerism. That's NeighborLink.

Imagine an online bulletin board where you could post your need and where you could go to find needs to meet. We're a web-based community connection tool that focuses on mobilizing churches and volunteers to meet the needs that fall through the cracks of traditional social services. These projects are typically home maintenance and repair needs for people that cannot physically and/or financial afford the repairs.

Grateful for the Indiana Mortgage Bankers Association and for a night of NEIMBA Bingo Beats.
Thank you for inviting NeighborLink into the room and making space for what community can actually look like when people come together. And thank you for your generosity. It becomes projects completed, neighbors cared for, and relationships built that last beyond a single moment.

We’re thankful to be part of it

There is a quiet truth about communities:

No one heals a neighborhood alone.

A neighbor notices a need.
Another neighbor carries the tools.
Someone else brings time, compassion, and presence.

And little by little, something sacred begins to form — a web of care where strangers become neighbors and neighbors become community.

This is the spirit behind The Link.

On April 13, 2026, we’re gathering volunteers from across Fort Wayne for a night to learn, connect, and grow together. Not just to talk about service, but to deepen the relationships that make service possible.

At NeighborLink, we believe the work is bigger than projects.
It’s about weaving people together so that no one carries burdens alone.

At The Link, you’ll have the chance to learn how to navigate the NeighborLink platform, meet volunteers who care deeply about this city, discover how your gifts can meet real needs, and become part of a growing movement of neighbors serving neighbors.

Whether you’re brand new or already involved, this gathering is about strengthening the connections that help the beloved community take root right here in Fort Wayne.

We’ll share stories, build relationships, and yes — there will be free food because the best communities are built around tables.

Sometimes the most powerful things happening in our city don’t make headlines.

A staff member and a volunteer from NeighborLink showed up this week with groceries for a single mom. Pretty simple, right?

But here’s the part that matters.

The connection didn’t start with us.

It started with a neighbor we’ve been walking alongside for a while now. We’ve helped her with small projects over the years mowing her grass, shoveling snow, showing up when something around the house needed attention. Nothing flashy. Just steady presence. Through those small acts, a relationship formed.

And this week, she was the one calling on behalf of someone else.

She had been helping a single mom who didn’t have enough food. She didn’t need groceries herself she just saw the need and stepped in. Then she reached out so we could step in too.

On the voicemail about the situation, you could hear a little kid in the background celebrating that groceries were on the way. That sound that joy you can’t manufacture that.

What starts as one need often reveals more. A washer and dryer that need hooked up. An HVAC system that’s struggling. Needs come in layers. But we’ve learned not to see that as overwhelming. It’s an invitation to go deeper. To respond holistically. To care for the whole neighbor, not just the project.

The real hero in this story is the neighbor who made the connection. Because this is what we hope for every time we show up for a small project that love would ripple outward.

This is the Kingdom of Heaven breaking through. Or as Martin Luther King Jr. called it, the beloved community.Ordinary people looking out for each other. And honestly in a world that oftens feels disconnected and lonely , it’s an honor to witness this type of community.

Serving others certainly meets real needs ramps get built, snow gets cleared, meals get delivered but if we’re honest, it doesn’t just change the circumstances of the neighbors we serve; it changes us. When we show up, our assumptions are dismantled, our comfort is stretched, and our faith shifts from abstraction to embodied love. Service interrupts the illusion that we are self-sufficient and reminds us how deeply interconnected we actually are. We may begin thinking we are bringing something our time, strength, or resources but we often leave with something greater: perspective, humility, gratitude, relationship, even joy. “Neighbor” stops being a category and becomes a shared identity, and we discover that the work isn’t only about repairing homes or meeting needs; it is about participating in repair of isolation, division, and our own hearts. Love, when practiced, forms the one who practices it.

You don’t have to do this alone. Come serve alongside us and discover what happens when ordinary people choose to love their community together. Visit https://www.nlfw.org to get started!

Every blue dot you see on this map represents a NeighborLink story.
A neighbor being seen.
A volunteer choosing presence.
A moment of kenosis — self-giving love — where the love of Jesus is poured out in tangible ways, offering care, dignity, and hope.

This isn’t charity from a distance.
It’s love that empties itself and shows up.
It’s neighbors meeting neighbors with humility, attention, and faithfulness.

When you look at this map, what do you notice?
What does it draw out of you?
Where might you be invited into?

If something stirs in you, lean into it.
Come be present with us.
Serve alongside your neighbors.

If you’re new, sign up to volunteer with NeighborLink.
If you’re already an approved volunteer, pick up a project on our website and step into a project this week.

Together, we continue building a more connected, compassionate community one act of self-giving love at a time.
