We have a sweet senior neighbor who needs our help. She’s a widow, currently undergoing cancer treatment, and just returned home from rehab after breaking her hip. On top of all that, she lost her son this past December and is facing it all mostly alone.

She needs grab bars installed in her bathroom so she can safely get in and out of the tub to shower. It’s a simple fix that would mean the world to her — and help her stay safe and independent at home.

If you have the skills (or know someone who does) and a little time to spare, please reach out. This is exactly the kind of neighbor-helping-neighbor moment we love to be part of.

To Katie Jo and Jillian Kreider thank you for being more than community members, but true connectors. Because you saw a need and acted on it, a neighbor now has a working refrigerator.

What an awesome story from our first-time volunteer!

Tina Antrim just joined us for her first NeighborLink project, and she has an awesome story to share:

“This was my first time volunteering with NeighborLink, and I got put on a landscaping project for a senior citizen. While I was there, I had two really sweet experiences I have to share.

First, there was this adorable kitten who decided our whole project was really about her. She was all up in our business the entire time, and at one point just laid right next to me while I pulled weeds. So precious.

Second, the homeowner’s grandson came outside, and something about him looked familiar. We kept eyeing each other, and eventually he came over to chat. That’s when we both realized — he was one of my former students, and I was his former high school guidance counselor! He told me he’s in his 40s now, which I still can’t quite believe. It was so good to catch up with him, and what an incredible blessing to end up helping him and his grandma with their yard.”

You never know who you’re going to run into! It could be a cute kitten or a former connection.

Happy Fourth of July from all of us at NeighborLink!

Freedom means a lot of things, but at NeighborLink, we believe it also means the freedom to ask for help and the joy of showing up for someone else when they need it. This country was built by people who depended on one another, not people who did it alone.

Today, as you gather with family, light fireworks, or just enjoy a day off, we’re grateful for every neighbor who’s mowed a lawn, delivered a meal, or lent a hand to someone in our community this year. That’s what makes a place feel like home.

On June 19, 1865, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation, Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas, to announce that the enslaved people there were free. Freedom had been declared long before but for them, it had been delayed, withheld, unspoken. Juneteenth marks the day the news finally arrived.

Freedom that exists on paper isn’t the same as freedom that’s been delivered, lived, and made real. The gap between declared and realized is where the hard, holy work happens and it’s work that still belongs to us.

So today we remember. We celebrate the resilience of people who held onto hope through generations of waiting. And we ask ourselves the question every generation has to answer: where is freedom still delayed, and what part will we play in carrying the news?

A few weeks ago, one of our neighbors had their lawn mower stolen. We shared the need and love showed up. Another neighbor stepped in without hesitation and donated a mower, not because they had to, but because that’s what love does: it sees a need and moves. At NeighborLink, this is the heartbeat of everything we do. We believe loving your neighbor isn’t just a saying it’s an action. It’s standing with each other through setbacks and making sure no one walks through hard times alone. We’re simply the connectors. The love comes from all of you. Every donation, every share, every act of kindness is love made visible.

Keep loving your neighbors well it’s changing our community one act at a time!
