π Volunteer Spotlight: Meet Patsy! π
We have been blessed to have Patsy part of our volunteer team for 11 years.
When asked why she volunteers, Patsy shared:
π "I love reading to children and watching the story ignite their imagination and curiosity. Passing out books to children in the hospital takes it a step further by engaging children who aren't feeling well and are missing home, providing them with a relief from what they are enduring."
One of Patsy's favorite books is π Stellaluna by Janell Cannon, a story she loves for its themes of acceptance and unexpected friendship.
Here's a fun fact about Patsy! ππ― She is a beekeeper with five bee hives. She enjoys learning about bee biology and caring for her colonies. While honey is certainly a sweet reward, Patsy is passionate about helping increase the honey bee population to support the pollination of flowers and food sources.
One of Patsy's most memorable Kate's Kart moments took place in a NICU:
π "We stopped at a NICU room where a young mother was pacing around the room, clearly overwhelmed. I asked her if she wanted to pick a book from Kate's Kart. She replied, 'No thank you.' I told her that her baby would love to hear her voice as she read a book to him. Tears filled her eyes as a smile spread across her face. She picked a 'just right' book to read to her little one. When we passed the room later, I could hear the mother reading the book to her baby."
Stories like these remind us that a book is more than just pagesβit can create connection, comfort, and precious moments during difficult times.
β¨ Thank you, Patsy, for 11 years of compassion, dedication, and for helping children and families find comfort through the power of a brand-new book.
