After much discussion, Kate’s Kart has decided to move our services to California...

Okay, maybe not. 😂 But they DID reach out asking for a Kart!

Now that I have your attention… we ARE moving our offices, but just a few miles away! We are committed to serving NE Indiana and NW Ohio. 🩷

We’re excited to share that Kate’s Kart is moving into a bigger, all-in-one location at the corner of Cook and Coldwater, just across from Northrop High School. No more operating out of two separate spaces!

This is an exciting next chapter for Kate’s Kart as we continue to grow and expand our services ... both into new counties and within the communities we already serve. FUN FACT: We are currently giving out 1,000 more books PER MONTH than we were this time last year!

This move is happening a little earlier than expected, so the expenses were not included in our budget. And while we’re incredibly excited, moving a growing nonprofit is a BIG undertaking.

That’s where our amazing Kate’s Kart community comes in. You have NEVER let us down, especially when we’ve needed you most.

A Few Words That Mean So Much 💜

One of our hospital volunteers recently received this note from a 16-year-old pediatric patient, who wanted to make sure it was shared with us.

Little notes like this provide us with a beautiful reminder of why Kate’s Kart matters. 💜

Our volunteers share more than books in the hospital. They bring comfort, connection, excitement and kindness—and sometimes, that kindness comes right back to us. 💜📚

🌟VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT: JILL 🌟

Jill has been part of the Kate’s Kart volunteer family since 2022! 📚

She first learned about Kate’s Kart when her children took a kindergarten field trip to our office. Krista’s story, Kate’s legacy, and Jill’s own love of reading inspired her to get involved.

📖 Favorite children’s book: Snuggle Puppy by Sandra Boynton
📚 Fun fact: Jill is a passionate nonfiction and historical fiction reader!

One of Jill’s favorite parts of volunteering is seeing the relief on parents’ faces when the Kart arrives at their child’s room. As Jill puts it, it’s a moment of respite — “no needles, no hard dialogues, just pure joy in looking at a wide variety of new books!”

Jill, thank you for bringing your love of books and your heart for families to Kate’s Kart! 💜 We are so grateful for you!

🎉 Remember our friend who celebrated Kate’s 20th birthday by bringing us 20 different items? 🎁📚

Well, today is HER 51st birthday 🎂 🎈… and she stopped by our office with a very special birthday surprise! 🥳💜

She completely blew us away with a donation of 1,051 boxes of colored pencils ✏️ AND more than 100 high-quality, brand-new books! 📚

Happy Birthday to this incredibly thoughtful donor who chose to celebrate her special day by giving the gift of joy to so many children.💜📚✏️

🖍️🌈 Our Crayon & Colored Pencil Drive is underway and we’re on a mission to fill our shelves with 10,000 boxes of colorful creativity! 🎨

Here’s where we stand:

✏️ 177 / 5,000 boxes of Crayola colored pencils

And our colored pencil shelf is REALLY needing some love! 💜 If you’re deciding which to donate, colored pencils are our biggest need right now! ✏️

Six weeks ago, we celebrated Kate's love of ice cream while raising funds and awareness for hospitalized children through our annual Ice Cream Social.

Today, we're thrilled to share the final total...

🍦 $159,637.55 raised! 🍦

PLUS an additional $6,120 in donated products and services!

What's even sweeter? That's $34,000 more than we raised in 2025! 🎉

Every dollar has already begun making a difference, helping us provide comfort, choice, and connection to children facing hospitalization through the gift of a brand-new book.

To our incredible sponsors, our amazing ice cream shop partners, our volunteers, and every person who dropped a few dollars into a donation box—thank you. Your generosity adds up to something truly extraordinary.

💜 Foundation Friday: Adams County Community Foundation 💜

For 15 years, the Adams County Community Foundation has helped ensure our Kart at Adams Memorial Hospital is always stocked with brand-new books. Because of their continued generosity, 12,344 books have been shared with pediatric ER patients in Decatur.

Here we grow again... and we are incredibly grateful for the community that makes moments like this possible! 💜📚

Our newest Kate's Kart has officially arrived at Goshen Health , and it wouldn't have happened without so many generous partners.

💜 Micah & Stephanie VerHage donated the funds to purchase the Kart in memory of their son, Ezra, who was a patient at Goshen. The VerHage family has faithfully supported Kate's Kart for the past 12 years, and we are honored that this special tribute will continue Ezra's legacy by bringing comfort and smiles to other hospitalized children.

📚 Lippert Cares, the philanthropic arm of Lippert generously provided the funding to initally stock the Kart with brand-new books. We are especially thankful to Dylan, our Elkhart County Champion and former Kate's Kart Kid himself, who has been sharing the Kate's Kart story throughout the community for the past several years. His passion has helped make this expansion possible!

🎨 Hannah, one of the incredibly talented artists who hand-paints our Karts. She has painted this Kart—along with many others—giving each one its own unique personality, warmth, and sense of wonder before it ever reaches a child. Our painter's creativity and talent helps transform every Kart into something truly special.

🏥 The staff at Goshen Health has been incredible throughout this process, and we are thrilled to partner with a team that is so excited to offer this resource to their young patients and families.

Andy and I continue to stand in awe of what God and this community have done. What started as a way to honor our little girl's love of books has now grown to 49 Karts—and we can't help but wonder... where will #50 go? 💜
