We had such a great evening at The Stillery in Westminster this weekend! Thank you to everyone who came out to support SARDOC and spend time with our team. 🐾

Surge may have stolen the show (and possibly the dance floor)—pretty sure line dancing is his new favorite activity!

We’re so grateful for this amazing community!

If you missed it, you can still make an impact by donating through our website. Link in the bio!

MEMBER HIGHLIGHT, Pamela Eaton, Testing Coordinator, Operational Air Scent & HRD K9 Team: Pamela Eaton brings thoughtful leadership and effective canine training and field support practices to SARDOC. Since joining in 2020, she has built a successful and enduring partnership with her SAR dog, "Thor," while contributing to SARDOC training, testing, and member development.

Her SAR certification and fielding experiences span both SARDOC and SARDUS canine Air Scent (Area Search) and Human Remains Detection. She previously served as the SARDOC Treasurer and now serves as the Testing Coordinator. Pamela continues to help members move forward through the application of clear standards, practical guidance, and operational readiness.

In addition to her testing leadership, Pamela leverages her background in public service and analytics to meet the persistent and mission-focused demands of Search and Rescue.

Earlier this spring, we had a great weekend putting our current cohort of Handlers‑in‑Training to the test on their mapping skills using CalTopo!

is a powerful mapping resource used by many of Colorado’s Backcountry Search & Rescue (BSAR) teams to coordinate safe, effective operations—and for good reason. Its detailed maps, customizable layers, and offline capability make it an excellent tool not just for SAR, but for anyone recreating in the backcountry.

Whether you’re hiking, skiing, trail running, or exploring somewhere new, CalTopo helps you better understand the terrain, plan smarter routes, and stay oriented when it matters most.

Congratulations to Caroline and Gwyn for passing the next step in the certification process! Caroline recently became a voting member of our SARDOC team. Her education in non-profit operations is helping us ramp up our grant procurements in 2026, strengthening our organization from top to bottom. Gwyn is just here for the reward - preferably a tug toy - after every successful training session. šŸ˜€

In late February, we partnered with Range Rescue Dogs for a full day of joint training at the .

This collaborative session provided an excellent opportunity for both organizations’ K9 teams to refine critical search skills, explore challenging environments, and share best practices. Our handlers and dogs worked through a variety of scenarios designed to enhance readiness, communication, and overall capability.

We’re grateful for the chance to train together and for the continued commitment of these dedicated teams.

On February 9, 2026, at the invitation of (ARP) , SARDOC Testing Coordinator Pamela Eaton delivered a presentation and K9 demonstration to 35 ARP members at the South Metro Fire Rescue Training Center.

The presentation covered SARDOC’s certification process, SAR dog deployment strategies, and the critical support ARP members provide in the field — including backcountry navigation, digital mapping, radio communications, and proper handling of scent articles and clues.

Pamela also demonstrated how her certified SAR dog, Thor (Human Remains Detection and Wilderness Air Scent), quickly locates concealed remains and live subjects.

SARDOC is grateful for its longstanding partnership with ARP and our shared commitment to serving our community.

Searches indoors bring new challenges, and our teams got great practice this weekend at Conifer High School. The scent of a subject will disseminate throughout an entire room, often pooling where HVAC pushes it. We practice searching every nook until we pinpoint the subject! You can tell from this pup's body language that she knows she's in the right place. Thanks to the staff at Conifer High School for opening your facility to our teams!

In December, SARDOC responded to a request for canine support from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office to locate a missing child. The SARDOC Area Search dog team was able to quickly locate the child and was reunited with their family.

Thank you to for their partnership!

SARDOC search dog handlers are unpaid volunteers who are passionate about reuniting families with their missing loved ones. Please consider donating to SARDOC so we can continue to provide these vital services. https://sardock9.org/donate/

What a day in Pueblo!

Our SARDOC teams turned Water Tower Place – a massive, historic meat packing plant – into the ultimate urban training ground for a one-day training hosted by our Southern Region.

Dogs and handlers tackled building and urban searches, practicing air scent, trailing, and HRD in tight hallways and open industrial spaces. And of course, the best part for the dogs? Nothing beats the excitement of the final reward – in Poppy's case, a frisbee – after a successful find. šŸ¾šŸŽ‰

Big thanks to everyone who made this training possible.
