Fort Collins Area Swim Team's Masters Practice is open to all those who want to get into or back in the water.

MWF 5:30-6:45am, 8:15-9:15am & 11:30-12:30pm, Thursday 7:00-8:00 am and 11:30-12:30

Seeing good technique as the team incorporates the KARLA drill from Lilly King’s demo at the National Coaches Clinic. This hybrid drill combines butterfly and breaststroke to teach hip undulation and forward energy flow. Great job, Nick Cassidy and Eileen Phillips!

Coach Eric & Coach Sharon attended their first USMS National Coach’s Clinic held in Denver this past weekend. Eric spoke at one of several informative sessions led by passionate coaches with successful teams throughout the country. In-water technique featured Olympians [gold medalists] Lilly King and Cullen Jones…amazing! Looking forward to incorporating lots of good stuff in the coming weeks. Gooo FAST!

This past Sunday was the 27th Annual Horsetooth Open Water Swim. This event is something that FAST continues to get behind every year. A big thank you to Joe Bakel Ann Donoghue and the 30+ volunteers from FAST on the dryside!!! Drivers, paddlers, check in, hospitality, kayak haulers, safety, etc. So many moving pieces to put on this event. Great to see friends and families (3 generations for some) supporting each other in many ways not only on the day but in the lead up to the race.

On the competition side of things, 30+ FAST masters swimmers competed in 1.2 mi, 2.4 mi and 10K (6.2 mi). We had a good mix of returning swimmers, those experiencing an open water race for the first time and/or conquering a new distance. In the 10K we had 3 swimmers place in the top 3 overall. For the women Sedera Zbranak 1st, Rachel Berger 3rd and the men Michael Hamlett 3rd. Several swimmers placed in awards of their respective age groups in the various distances.

W40-49 Katie Horvath - 10K non-wetsuit, 2nd
W50-59 Nicole Vowles - 10K non-wetsuit, 2nd
M60-69 Walter Dauksher - 10K non-wetsuit, 1st
M60-69 Fred Arnold - 10K non-wetsuit, 2nd
W40-49 Katie Zwiefka - 10K wetsuit, 1st
M 50-59 Ron Kemp - 2.4 non-wetsuit, 1st
M 50-59 Jason Welch - 2.4 wetsuit, 2nd
M 24-29 Alex Stigall - 1.2 non-wetsuit, 1st
M 60-69 Danny Evans - 1.2 wetsuit, 1st

The 1.2 mile swim also served as the COMSA open water championship. Race Director Joe Bakel says that next year COMSA will pick another race and possibly another distance for the state open water championship. COMSA Awards for FAST athletes:

Great way to wrap up our summer 🏊‍♂️ 🏊‍♀️’s at the Collindale pool! Post swim popsicles and Q & A with local pro triathletes and FAST Masters 🏊🏊‍♀️ swimmers Lisa Becharas and Benjamin Randall A big THANK YOU for sharing your triathlon knowledge.

Our last outdoor swim of the summer is tomorrow out at the Timnath pool. 50 x 1:30 interval you pick distance 100’s 75’s or 50’s with post swim potluck! 😋

Summer vibes and great swims at the 1st Annual FAST Masters Long Course Pineapple Challenge on June 27, which was, of course… INTERNATIONAL PINEAPPLE DAY!!! 🍍🐠🌴😂
