YIMBY Fort Collins is committed to giving renters a voice, so we want to highlight how renter rights have changed in recent years.

You should know:
💰 Security deposits are generally capped at two months’ rent.
🐶 Pet deposits are capped at $300 and must be refundable.
💸 Landlords generally can’t require income greater than 2x the monthly rent.
✅ Qualifying portable tenant screening reports must be accepted.
💫 Security deposits must be returned or damage expenses itemized.
🔨 Landlords MUST address unsafe or uninhabitable conditions.
🚫 It's ILLEGAL to discriminate based on race, disability, familial and marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, veteran or military status, religion, national origin, ancestry, and source of income. If you've been discriminated against, document it, file a Fair Housing Act claim and sue!
