TMT got a special guest appearance from Mary van Laarhoven!

Vacations may happen, but the training doesn't stop.

We're always happy to welcome new faces to our workouts- especially when they're willing to jump into 20x400m with a 400m float. Aka, a lot of laps around the track.

We'll get to see Mary again soon when she lines up alongside Rachael Rudel USA Track & Field 10K Championships!

One of the best things about running is that the people you train with can be both your friends and your fiercest competitors. We're better for having both.

This week on Conversation Pace with Front Range Elite, we chat with , co-founder of , about protein, recovery, nutrition and the science behind all of it.

Matt is an endurance athlete himself, so we get into the questions runners have; how much protein do we need?
Does timing really matter?
What makes one protein better than another?
And what are we getting wrong when it comes to recovery?

We also talk about Matt’s own path from a career in advertising to triathlon, qualifying for Kona, and eventually starting a company focused on protein and sports nutrition.

There’s a lot of nutrition advice out there, and honestly, it can be hard to know what’s worth paying attention to. This was a fun conversation about separating the noise from what will help you train and recover a little better.

Sometimes coming back from injury is almost as sexy and fun as killer workouts. Almost.

A few of us are in different stages of the comeback, and while we’d obviously rather be racing, we’re learning to work with what we’ve got right now.

Easy runs, walk/run days, strength work, patience, the occasional dip into total demoralization… and a whole lot of support from the people around us. Because apparently we’re all significantly spicier humans when we can’t run. 😂

Coming back is a lot more fun when you don’t have to do it alone. 🫶 And views like this definitely don’t hurt.

This week on Conversation Pace, sits down with teammates , , and to chat about their races at the Never Summer 60k and 100k at the end of July.

FRE had a great weekend of racing, with Cal placing second in the 60k in 5:55, running under the previous course record and becoming only the second person ever to break 6 hours on the course. In the 100k, Liv took the win in 13:18 (just 8 minutes off of the course record!!), and Taylor rounded out the podium with 3rd in 14:37.

Mike Morgan, one of the OG is on this week's episode of Conversation Pace with FRE.

He was a member of the Hansons Original Distance Project for over 15 years, a three-time Team USA representative. With more than 20 years in the sport, he’s seen a lot of changes- from training and racing to the way professional runners approach the sport.

We talk about some of the biggest moments of his career, racing at the Olympic Trials and on the world stage, how running has changed over the years, and what hasn’t changed at all.

A really fun conversation with someone who has been around the sport for a long time and has plenty of stories to tell.

Never Summer race results! What an incredible weekend in the mountains, with podium finishes all around.

delivered an outstanding performance in his very first ultramarathon, finishing 2nd in the 60K with a blazing time of 5:55.

Cal’s post-race thoughts: Never Summer was a dream- such a fun challenge, unique to anything I’ve done before. With all the unknowns, I focused on process goals (fueling, effort, headspace), so I feel lucky that everything came together for a back-of-mind, stretch goal: sub-6 hours and under the old course record! I still have tons to learn and improve on, so already can’t wait to go again!

In the 100K, raced with confidence from the start, claiming the win and breaking the tape in 13:18. rounded out an incredible day by earning 3rd place in 14:37.

Liv’s post-race thoughts: (in comments)

Taylor’s post-race thoughts: Ultras never fail to teach you something new, and for me Never Summer 100k was a lesson in gritting it out when things got really tough. My day took a turn for the worse pretty early on, but the best crew and pacer () on the planet kept me rolling when I desperately wanted to quit, and I’m really proud of making it to the finish line!!

Anyone who has climbed, hiked, or run at altitude knows just how demanding these mountains are. Performances like these are truly exceptional. Huge congratulations to Cal, Liv, Taylor, and everyone who took on the challenge this weekend!
