AMVETS Post 109

The American Legion was chartered and incorporated by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic veterans organization devoted to mutual helpfulness. It is the nation’s largest wartime veterans service organization, committed to mentoring youth and sponsorship of wholesome programs in our communities, advocating patriotism and honor, promoting strong national security, and continued devotion to our fellow service members and veterans. In the spirit of Service, Not Self, the mission of the American Legion Auxiliary is to support The American Legion and to honor the sacrifice of those who serve by enhancing the lives of our veterans, military, and their families, both at home and abroad. For God and Country, we advocate for veterans, educate our citizens, mentor youth, and promote patriotism, good citizenship, peace and security. Founded in 1932, Sons of The American Legion exists to honor the service and sacrifice of Legionnaires. After WWII many returning troops used their GI Bill benefits to attend college. Veterans on campus began forming veterans clubs, a place where they could go and share similar experiences and offer each other support after the war. On July 23, 1947, President Truman signed Public Law 216 that granted a Congressional Charter to American Veterans of WWII. The charter has been amended over the years to broaden membership eligibility and change the name to AMVETS (American Veterans.)

Chicken Barbeque, September 19, 2026. Dine-in or takeout at 507 Main Street, Fiskdale. 5 to 7 pm. BBQ chicken, baked potato, corn on the cob, salad, bread, desserts, coffee, and tea. Raffles, etc. Tickets are $20 per person. Tickets may be purchased at the Legion; call 508-347-3248. All proceeds will benefit our Veterans in need.
