Saturday morning Sturbridge Rotarians, family members and Tantasqua Regional High School Interact Club student members all gave the Sturbridge Rotary Park a good spring cleaning.
It was part of the Annual Sturbridge Town wide cleanup day. What a great day for this community service project. Benches are ready for all to sit a moment to enjoy the beauty.

Sturbridge Rotarians hosted a “double header” last Tuesday evening. First up was the recognition of Southbridge Credit Union for their generous support of our charitable efforts through the years. Christine Abbotts, Director of Marketing and Community Outreach, was present to receive the certificate.
Dinner guest was Amanda Normandin, Owner of A. Normandin Design. Amanda spoke with club members about how she achieved her early dreams of becoming a Licensed commercial and residential Architect. At an early age Amanda was drawing up plans and designs for fun. Her grandfather was an engineer and inspired her to draw houses without really knowing it.Amanda received “Amanda the Architect “ as a graduation gift at age 21. From there, many years of combining marriage, family and schooling to achieve her license in 2022. Club members viewed photos of her design work including Gido’s, The First Congregational Church of Spencer, Anna’s Taqueria as well as several residential houses including lake homes. What a dynamic presentation.

President Klaus Hachfeld and President-elect Tim Gresenz were excited to sit in on the Tantasqua Regional High School Rotary Interact Full Board Meeting last Tuesday. This student club is sponsored by the Sturbridge Rotary Club.
The meeting, under the guidance of advisor Amy Willard, covered the induction of new members this year (including certificates) in addition to electing new E Board members for the next school year.
They reviewed service events completed the first part of the school year as well as goals for the balance of the school year. The enthusiasm of this group of students was amazing to observe.

The Sturbridge Rotary Club was honored Tuesday to have Lt Larry Bateman, a 21 year veteran of the Sturbridge Police Department as our speaker. His wide-ranging topics of discussion updated members and guests on both daily activities of the department as well as community outreach programs and events they are involved in such as the Sturbridge Neighborhood Watch Program.
The Sturbridge Rotary Club is especially grateful for the opportunity to continue our ongoing collaboration with the Sturbridge Police Department in caring for our community. Lt Bateman and the SPD are valuable partners and resources for us all. The Sturbridge Rotary Club welcomes any suggestions and feedback on where our support is needed most. The Sturbridge Rotary Club was honored to be joined last night by Tricia Gay, Chairman of the Board at St. Luke’s Guesthouse in Southbridge, to accept our donation towards this “small but mighty” program. Tricia shared the remarkable mission of the Guesthouse, which has been providing shelter and resources to individuals and families struggling to work their way out of homelessness since 2013.

We are so proud to contribute towards this organization and continue strengthening the community by supporting those who need it most. St. Luke’s Guesthouse relies on donations to keep its doors open, and the needs of the house and its residents are alway changing. The members of the Sturbridge Rotary Club are saddened to hear of the Southbridge Rotary Club Board and Members decision to close the Southbridge Rotary Club down. Over 50 years ago members of your club worked hard to establish the Rotary Club Of Sturbridge. We worked independently in our communities but many times together to support common community needs.
Rotary members not only volunteer but do have fun along the way. Most notable were our extremely competitive annual softball games at Westville Lake or Hamilton Rod and Gun Club in Sturbridge. We thank your past and present members for their service.
The Rotary Club of Sturbridge welcomes current members of the Southbridge Club to join us. Please contact us at www.sturbridge rotary.com. We meet at 6 pm the first and third Tuesdays of the month at the Publick House Restaurant.
