The Central Mass Lyme Foundation will be participating in the Center for Lyme Action's 2026 Virtual Advocacy Day. This is where Lyme advocates from all over the country get to speak with their state reps about the importance of funding for Lyme disease.

Careful observation can tell you something about this tick encounter that could be a helpful hack in the future. Do you see it? Plain scutum, long straight mouthparts, date and location—all helpful in ID. But we notice the back end is ripped and this tick “spilled its guts.” To avoid this, we recommend people use a pointy tweezer and grab the tick as close to the skin as possible. https://bit.ly/remove_tick_safely

It's such an emotional day for me watching on YouTube the Lyme disease roundtable with some of the most courageous Lyme disease advocates that are allowed to speak about others who have battled not only Lyme disease but other vector-borne diseases like Bartonella! I have no doubt that my Mom is smiling down on them and I never thought that this would be in my lifetime that Lyme was talked about publicly. I will continue to pray that Lyme disease will be no longer an "invisible illness" to the medical community.

It's my privilege to announce that I've been invited to serve on the panel for The U.S. Department of Health & Human Services upcoming roundtable discussion on Lyme.

This is an unprecedented & historic opportunity to speak to the heads of the major federal health agencies about the unmet needs of one of the most marginalized patient populations in all of medicine, by providing insights into the immense breadth of chronic & autoimmune illness that can be caused by chronic infections.

It's also a chance to offer some paths forward toward possible solutions. Many thanks to Secretary Kennedy & his team for making this happen.

Oh, that sneaky Bartonella bacteria. Turns out it’s got a clever plan to set up persistent infection. This study has provided a new piece of the puzzle on a frustrating co-infection. If you're battling this one, you know it's a menace!

These bacteria figured out a way to HIJACK part of its hosts immune system. Here’s the issue, normal cells should die (a process called programmed cell death or apoptosis) when they're infected and compromised. This is a crucial part of clearing an infection! They then use this mechanism to activate a self-feeding survival signal (an autocrine loop) that keeps the infected cell alive! Which means the cell doesn’t die and the bacteria can continue lurking, causing chronic symptoms. This explains why Bartonella is so persistent and difficult to clear.

Knowledge is power in this fight! This discovery helps the medical community figure out more targeted and effective ways to treat this menace.
