On May 23, 2026 marked the 107th Anniversary to The American Legion Ralph D Cole Post #3. Recently, on Memorial Day, I arrived to Maple Grove Cemetery a little early prior to the days events that would take place there. As I was walking up to the Veterans Memorial area, I noticed to my left this rather large statue of a woman writing something on a wall and then I noticed above that the name Ralph D Cole. My brain clicked and then realized I was now standing in front of this magnificent monument to Mr. Cole and his family. The statue of the lady was writing " He served " as I began to read the writings on Mr. Cole's Headstone I could clearly see why this Post was named after him with so many accomplishments that he had made. Of course, A founder of the American Legion definitely stood out and the list continued: Representative of the Ohio Assembly, Member of Congress, Lieutenant Colonel of Infantry 37th Division A E.F., Order of Purple Heart, Commander, The American Legion Department of Ohio, Bachelor of Philosophy, Doctor of Laws, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks and Knights of Pythias were all engraved there. This was my first time going to the Memorial Ceremonies that day and how fitting that it was that I came upon this Memorial. I had no idea until speaking to Clark and asking the date that Post #3 had opened on May 23rd. Funny how things are lead to you. Take the time to honor this man and our Post #3 at this time. Tap the " Like " button or " Share " and definitely leave a positive comment below.

This week, long time employee Karen Christman retired. Karen has worked for The American Legion for 12 years as a waitress. We are thankful for her dedication and will miss her smiling face daily. Please give Karen a " Like " or let everyone know about Karen with a positive comment below. Karen is a good example of the support and success that volunteers and employees help make The American Legion. You will still see Karen at The American Legion Canteen visiting friends and I am sure volunteering for events.
