Winebrenner Theological Seminary is a graduate school founded by the Churches of God, General Conference (CGGC), an evangelical denomination headquartered in Findlay, Ohio. The Seminary derives its name from the founder of the denomination, John Winebrenner, who established the group in 1825 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Winebrenner Seminary continues to serve the CGGC as its sole seminary as well

as students from 35 different denominational backgrounds. The Seminary is accredited by the Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada and by the Higher Learning Commission. Winebrenner's Master of Arts in Clinical Counseling program is CACREP accredited.

"Enrollment still matters. Stewardship and planning still matter. But the deeper priority involves walking alongside people."

In this week's InDepth, WTS President Dr. Brent Sleasman continues his series on cultivating fresh expressions of theological education.

This week, Dr. Sleasman focuses on the "ecosystem" of theological education. This includes churches, ministry organizations, counseling centers, camps, denominational networks, and countless other expressions of kingdom activity.

Seminaries do not stand apart from that mission.
We participate within it.

In this week's InDepth, Dr. Brent Sleasman continues his series on fresh expressions of theological education:

"If theological education exists to cultivate faithful leaders for God’s kingdom, then our measurements should help illuminate that work rather than reduce it to the easiest items to quantify," he writes.

"That may require a broader imagination. It may also require the courage to acknowledge that some of the most important realities within theological education resist easy measurement altogether. And perhaps recognizing that limitation is itself part of wisdom."

In today's InDepth, President Brent Sleasman continues his series on what happens when we begin reexamining the assumptions that quietly shape our educational systems.

Grades help sort students, express achievement, determine eligibility, and often become shorthand for intelligence, effort, or potential. Entire systems have been built around their distribution and interpretation.

But what happens if the goal shifts? What happens if the primary question centers on whether the learner can demonstrate understanding and application? In an outcome-based framework, grades begin to function differently.

In this week's InDepth, President Brent Sleasman continues his series on cultivating fresh expressions of theological education.

What can it look like for theological institutions to move toward a more integrated understanding of formation—one that accounts not only for time spent, but for depth of engagement, context of ministry, and evidence of transformation?

In this week's InDepth, President Brent Sleasman continues his reflection on our recent collaboration with the Churches of God, General Conference Administrative Council for a time of intentionality, asking, and listening.

"There are limits to our knowledge and we must be humble enough to ask to learn the things we don’t know," Dr. Sleasman writes. "And, if we ask, we must actually listen to the answers."
