Congratulations, Martia Glass — San Juan United Way’s 2026 Volunteer of the Year!

We are thrilled to celebrate Martia Glass as the 2026 San Juan United Way Volunteer of the Year!

For the past eight years, Martia has served as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) in San Juan County, giving vulnerable children a consistent, compassionate voice as they navigate the child welfare and court systems.

Martia has advocated for 14 children across four complex cases, including one child she supported for nearly seven years, beginning when that child was just six months old. Through every challenge and change, Martia remained a steady presence—visiting regularly, listening, collaborating with caregivers and professionals, attending treatment team meetings, and ensuring the child's needs and best interests were heard in court.

That's what makes CASA service so powerful: a committed volunteer who knows the child, understands their story, and makes sure they are never forgotten.
Martia's CASA service is just one part of a remarkable lifetime of service to others. Her compassion, reliability, perseverance, and dedication truly embody what it means to be a volunteer.

A BIG thank you to our incredible community! 🧸💛

When we last asked for new stuffed animal donations for our Children’s Advocacy Center, you showed up in a BIG way. Since that post, we have received HUNDREDS of brand-new stuffed animals for the brave children we serve—and we are so incredibly grateful!

These special “bravery buddies” are more than just stuffed animals. When a child comes to our center for a forensic interview, they get to choose a new friend to hold, hug, and take home with them. Having something soft and comforting by their side can make an incredibly difficult experience feel just a little less scary.

Our supply has run incredibly low, so we’re making another heartfelt request for brand-new stuffed animals. 🧸

The children especially love the unique and unexpected ones—anything that makes their new friend feel like it was meant just for them!

Donations can be dropped off at the Childhaven Children’s Shelter, 807 W Apache St. Farmington, New Mexico 87401. They can also be ordered on Amazon and delivered straight to the shelter! These Amazon orders are to be addressed to Jennifer Gray.

We want to provide brand-new Bravery Buddies that will make a difference in a child's process of healing!

One of our wonderful young clients recently took on a new project: learning how to paint fingernails! She was so eager, conscientious, and followed every single instruction with the utmost care. As you can see in the photos on our staff members' hands, her hard work paid off—and she was absolutely thrilled with the result!

Moments like these are a great reminder of how meaningful simple quality time can be. Our clients benefit so much from having dedicated attention and a caring adult to just sit and listen. She was such a delightful little chatterbox the whole time that we could barely get a word in—and we wouldn't have it any other way. ❤️
