ENID FLYERS BASEBALL CLUB — FINAL CLARIFICATION
We want to provide one final clarification regarding the Enid Flyers and David Allen Memorial Ballpark, because there seems to be some misunderstanding about what actually occurred.
Our frustration was never simply that we didn't get the answer we wanted.
Our frustration was that, initially, there was no attempt to find a way to work with us.
It was only after the situation became public and the negative publicity began that we were contacted and an effort was made to determine whether an arrangement could be reached.
That part of the story has not previously been made public, and we want to be fair about it.
Once those conversations began, Mr. Mills with Enid Public Schools did make an effort to work with us and provided us with an option to use David Allen Memorial Ballpark.
We sincerely thank Mr. Mills for taking the time to communicate with us and attempting to find a solution.
Unfortunately, the financial terms presented were simply not feasible for our organization.
The cost analysis we received from EPS was for a four-hour game, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with the facility being billed for seven hours to include the additional required time surrounding the event.
The estimate provided was:
Facility Use: $1,400
Administration: $270
Custodial: $360
Campus Police: $240
Gate/Score Personnel: $264
Total: $2,534 for one four-hour baseball game.
We were also informed that concessions would be operated through EPS. If full concessions were offered, at least $300 in sales would need to be generated to cover their employees. A limited concession option of drinks and candy would require at least $150 in sales.
We appreciate that an option was eventually presented to us.
That offer came after the situation became public.
For a new baseball organization, $2,534 for a single four-hour game—before considering our other operating and game-day expenses—was not financially sustainable. We had to make the decision that was best for the long-term future of the Flyers.
We also want to make one thing absolutely clear:
The City of Enid had no part in this situation.The City was not responsible for these discussions, the proposed costs or the decisions surrounding our use of David Allen Memorial Ballpark. We do not want City leadership or employees blamed or criticized for something they were not involved in.
We are sharing this information because our supporters deserve clarification, not because we want to continue a public disagreement.
This will be our final statement regarding what happened.
We have said what needed to be said, and there is no benefit to continuing to debate the past.
Our focus is now entirely on the future.
We are extremely grateful to Garber Public Schools and the Garber community for welcoming the Enid Flyers and giving our organization a place to call home. We are excited about the relationship we can build there and what the future holds.
But moving our home games to Garber does not mean we are walking away from Enid.
We are still the Enid Flyers, and we still believe Enid is a baseball town.
We want to support All local teams from surrounding areas including Enid. Little League teams, youth organizations, coaches and young athletes in any way we can.
If you are a local coach or involved with a youth baseball organization, please reach out to us. We would love opportunities for our players to visit practices, participate in clinics, attend events, recognize youth teams and encourage the next generation of players.
Baseball is more than a sport. It is a community.
We love the Enid baseball community, and we intend to support it now and in the future.
We can appreciate Mr. Mills for eventually attempting to find a solution, acknowledge that the proposed arrangement didn't work for us, be grateful to Garber for opening its doors, and move forward.
The past has been addressed. We will not speak about it further.
From this point forward, our attention is on our players, our partners, our fans, our new home in Garber and supporting baseball throughout our community.
It's time to move forward and play ball.
